OBON Sushi Opens in Scottsdale June 27

Fukushū Restaurant Concepts announced today the opening of OBON Sushi + Bar + Ramen at The Grove, a new shopping and dining destination in Scottsdale’s McCormick Ranch neighborhood. Located at Hayden Road and McCormick Parkway, OBON is one of the first businesses to open in the new upscale, Santa Barbara-style development center. The new location will serve unique interpretations of traditional Japanese dishes with Korean influences, starting this Thursday, June 27, for dinner only, 4pm until 11pm. The restaurant will be open for lunch and dinner starting Monday, July 1.

To celebrate the opening, OBON Sushi will offer happy hour open to close, Monday through Sunday, for the entire month of July. Happy hour options include a selection of beverages, small plates, steamed buns and rolls from $3 to $6 as well as a rotating signature roll for $9 and ramen for $10.

“We chose to open our second Scottsdale location in McCormick Ranch, not only because it’s one of the most coveted areas in the city, but because it has the charm and the sense of community that we embody at OBON,” said Brandon Katz, founder of Fukushū Restaurant Concepts. “We are excited to offer the neighborhood a conveniently located spot at The Grove—a place where our guests can share a meal with friends and family, sit down for a lunch meeting over sake and sushi, or simply grab a late-night craft cocktail.”

Encompassing approximately 3,200-square-feet, the dining room is both open and inviting and includes a large bar and an expo kitchen where guests will see chefs preparing each meal to order. Boasting an indoor-outdoor experience, the restaurant features slide-away window walls connecting the dining room with a charming 1,600-square-foot patio that overlooks The Grove’s lush landscape. The interior design reflects OBON Sushi’s signature style with murals and wall art composed by Phoenix natives Price Goodman (@pricegoodman) and Kiki (@kikisaurusrexx), and additional art pieces by Aaron Bodden (@aakabo).

Led by Chef Paulo Im, OBON Sushi’s menu features an array of shareable plates, steamed buns, and ramen and sushi, some of which are unique to The Grove location. Shareable plates include cauliflower karaage, chicken-fried cauliflower with creamy shiso wasabi sauce, and a mushroom medley (three types of mushrooms dressed in sake butter and garlic), Korean animal fries, and crispy shrimp. Sushi options include a variety of nigiri, sashimi and maki rolls as well as modern nigiri, which offers unique twists on traditional nigiri; crudos, including Yuzu Yellowtail and Salmon Tiradito; and signature rolls such as the Angry Tuna and Langostino Roll. The menu also features seven ramen options, four different steamed buns, a selection of poke and large plates, including kanto beef broccoli, chilled kimchi noodles and fried rice. In addition to the regular menu, a selection of lunch-sized salads, bowls and sushi assortments are available until 3pm daily.

Creative, eye-catching cocktails take centerstage on the beverage menu, with a selection of beer, wine and sake. Guests can look forward to the Revenge of the Nerdlucks, made with vodka, sotol, grape soda, lemon, crème de violette, and topped with Nerds candy; I Want My Umami, with house michelada mix, Korean pilsner and a shot of soju; Passion of the Spice, with vodka, lemongrass, passionfruit, lime and hibiscus bitters; and the Chiltepin Cobbler, with gin, fresh lime, chiltepin pepper and cherry. OBON’s draft beer selection features local draughts from Gilbert’s 12 West Brewing, including an OBON-Tourage Pilsner, as well as family-owned Pinetop Brewing.

OBON Sushi is located at 7300 N Via Paseo Del Sur, #102, Scottsdale 85258, and will open on Thursday, June 27. The restaurant will be open for dinner only, 4pm until 11pm, through Sunday, June 30.

Starting Monday, July 1, OBON will be open for lunch and dinner, Sunday through Wednesday, 11am to 11pm, and Thursday through Saturday, 11am to 12pm.

Happy hour will be offered seven days a week, open to close, throughout the month of July. Beginning in August, happy hour will be available Sunday through Wednesday, 3pm to 6pm. with reverse happy hour from 10pm to 11pm, and Thursday through Saturday, 3pm to 6pm with reverse happy hour from 10pm to 12pm.
