Executive Chef Patrick Doyle is the inspiration behind the newly refreshed BlueFire Grille at the Hilton Scottsdale Resort & Villas.

Friday Bites with Patrick DoyleWith a complimentary combination of Irish and Mexican heritage, Chef Doyle brings a sequence of culture and comfort food to the BlueFire Grille’s new menu. His dedication to local ingredients is just a piece of the reimagining of the southwest bistro. The new menu is set to include southwestern flair including the Black & Blue desert flat, Icon Burger and Vegetarian Roasted Vegetable Enchiladas.

In addition to the tantalizing new food entrees, are cutting-edge cocktails like the “The New Fashioned” or “Acai Margarita” from the bar, now nearly three times its original size or from the newly designed pool area.

The refresh of the BlueFire Grille is part of a $5 million resort reimagining including modernized updates to the meeting space, resort Villas, pool area and lobby entry.

While his favorite item to cook is a traditional enchilada, Chef Doyle’s diverse palate allows him to try the best spots in town, bringing knowledge of food to each table he serves.

First Date Spot: Postino Wine Café

Postino is the ideal first date spot with casual corners inside that present a non-intimidating atmosphere. My wife and I love to go there for a cheese board and bottle of wine. We could sit there and talk for hours! On Monday and Tuesday nights they also have a bottle of bruschetta and bottle of wine for $20, if you’re trying to stay on the less expensive side for a first date.

Best Outdoor Patio: Cibo Urban Pizzeria

If you’re looking for a taste of downtown Phoenix that’s away from the normal zooming traffic of downtown, Cibo Urban Pizzeria is the place. Cibo’s patio is a little oasis off the beaten path, covered by lots of trees and greenery. The patio is the perfect place to enjoy a nice afternoon in the shade. There’s enough lighting without being overbearing, not to mention the food is incredible. Give their marinated vegetable platter, pizza or bruschetta trio plate a try. You won’t be disappointed!

Authentic Arizona: Don Rubens

I tend to be picky with my Mexican food as I grew up with home-made Mexican cuisine every night, but Don Rubens is worthy of home cooking! This semi-small spot serves up some of the best flavors true to the southwest. My dad is a lover of enchiladas done right, and this is the place he always wants to go back to for birthdays and anniversaries. You can’t lose with the enchilada plate, chile con carne and flan.

Best Breakfast: The Place

Big portions, fast service and quality food sum up The Place. The Place has biscuits and gravy bigger than your hand and pancakes that fill the plate to the edge. At The Place, you always know what you’re going to get. The food and service are consistent and most of the staff has been there longer than I can remember.

Dessert Spot: Sweet Republic

Sweet Republic is your traditional ice cream parlor with a twist! They specialize in trendy ice creams like dark chocolate jalapeño, salted caramel and egg nog. The flavors are always changing as the ice cream is all made fresh. That’s part of the fun of going to Sweet Republic, you never know what you’re going to get, but you always know it’ll hit that sweet tooth just right.
