Phoenix Bites Westgate Brunch Guide
First Watch | 9425 W Glendale Ave | 623.292.6930 | Open daily from 7am until 2:30pm
If a lighter brunch is on your mind, First Watch should be your first stop. This spot offers healthy options with fresh, seasonal ingredients served up in a flash. The interior is cozy and airy, and will make you feel comfortable enough to linger. Personally, I am a fool for Eggs Benedict and there are four versions on the menu, making my hollandaise-loving heart happy. There are classic items, lighter iterations, along with a few indulgent options.
PB Recommends:
PB Recommends: For a light option, go with the Sunrise Granola Bowl, but if you’re looking to indulge, be sure to order the Chickichanga.
Johnny’s Chicken & Waffles | 9830 W Westgate Blvd | 623.248.6532 | Open 10am on Saturday and 9am on Sunday
If you’re looking for Southern comfort food, Johnny’s has you covered. The interior is colorful, and the walls are peppered with memorabilia from one of the restaurant’s creators, Ne-Yo. The menu covers the gamut of what you would expect; from crispy, juicy chicken paired with fluffy, golden waffles (of which you can pick four different flavors) to grits with your choice of seafood, as well as a sandwich that you’ll never want your cardiologist to know you even thought about! They also have an array of cocktails to choose from to get you in the mood to party all day long.
PB Recommends: You can’t go wrong with the chicken and waffles, but you might want to get a little crazy and give the Mac Attack a try.
The Lola | 6770 N Sunrise Blvd | 623.87.5225 | Opens at 9am on both Saturday and Sunday
This is the spot that I picked for my girlfriends and me to meet up for brunch earlier this month. We sat on the patio, so we had a great view for people-watching, and the weather was perfect. This is a party spot, to be certain. The music is wafting inside and out, the cocktails are so clever, and there is a wide array of dishes for your group to choose from – the very definition of “something for everyone.” A pancake board? Sure! Double Oreo waffle? They’ve got it! Options on options, my friends!
PB Recommends: I tried the toasts (you get to pick three from their seven options) and was delighted, but I definitely was side-eyeing the “My Girlfriend Isn’t Hungry.” Seriously, look that one up.
Salt Tacos y Tequila | 6751 N Sunset Blvd | 623.772.7282 | Opens at 10am on both Saturday and Sunday
If you want to put a spicy spin on your weekend brunch, this modern Mexican eatery will understand the assignment. The interior is adorned with sugar skulls galore, and we love the tufted banquettes. They have the requisite brunch items like waffles (don’t miss the pineapple upside-down waffles) and breakfast sandwiches. You also get options like chilaquiles and huevos rancheros. If you need some spice in your life, they’ve got you covered!
PB Recommends: Go all in on the breakfast tacos. They have seven proteins you can add, and we lean towards the tinga or carne for full effect. And don’t forget the margaritas!
Bodega | 6751 N Sunset Blvd | 623.877.7673 | Opens at 10am on both Saturday and Sunday
Cute, cute, cute! This spot is giving off major Cuban vibes, from the welcoming pink door to the vibrant colors inside and that mural! The vibes carry over onto the brunch menu too, from their empanadas and Miami Heat Burrito to their Cuban Beef Cigars. Their list of mimosa varieties seems endless and is ready for the ‘gram.
PB Recommends: The Cuban Eggs Benedict is calling to us!
Carousel Arcade Bar | 6770 N Sunrise Blvd | 623.877.9777 | Open 11am on Saturday an d10am on Sunday
If you need a little fun with your brunch, you’ll love this spot. They’ve got your typical brunch fare like French toast and scrambles covered, and we love that they have cocktails that keep to the arcade theme. Their retro arcade is the perfect place to release your inner child.
PB Recommends: Go all out with the Carousel Breakfast Sample and share with your friends. You’re going to need that protein to refuel in between games.
No matter what you’re in the mood for, these Westgate brunch spots are sure to satisfy your cravings. From healthy options at First Watch to Southern comfort food at Johnny’s Chicken & Waffles, and the party vibes and clever cocktails at The Lola, there’s something for everyone. Make sure to try our dish recommendations and enjoy your weekend with your friends and family. Happy brunching!
