Events | Arizona Seven Reunite for the 7 Chef Fund Up

One thing that continues to impress me about our culinary scene in the Valley is the sense of community. All the chefs I have met in my journey with PhoenixBites have always rallied around one another; whether it’s the kind words they speak about a mentor who gave them their start and nurtured their love for creating or giving praise to another chef who is doing something huge. For these culinary leaders it’s all about community over competition, and I think we need a lot more of that in all aspects of our world. The latest event that proves to be a testament to that belief is the 7 Chef Fund Up happening on June 4th.

The Arizona Seven Reunite To Support One of Their Own

You may be familiar with the Arizona Seven from last years Seven Chef Singh Along, a one night only event, part of the Devoured Culinary Classic. The Arizona Seven, launched in 2014, is a collection of local chefs and friends who were all invited to cool alongside one another at the prestigious James Beard House in New York. The Arizona Seven is a rotating group of some of our top local chefs. They come together to host multi-course dinners while raising awareness as well as appreciation for our local food scene.

The group is coming together with 7 Chef Fund Up events for Kelly Fletcher who recently acquired a life-threatening infection that extended throughout his entire body. This infection resulted in his being in the ICU for weeks and subsequently bedridden at home. As you can imagine, his medical bills have been piling up and without health insurance, as is the case with many independent restaurant chefs, the impact of his illness is taking a major financial toll. The Arizona Seven are coming together to create a dinner in his honor, with 100% of the proceeds going directly to Chef Fletcher’s medical recovery.

The 7 Chef Fund Up Events

At 2pm on June 4th, the Arizona Seven will assemble at Crudo with a communal pig roast, with every side imaginable. The players for this event will include Cullen Campbell, Keenan Bosworth, Jacob Cutino, Josh Hebert, Scott Holmes, Stephen Jones, Bernie Kantak and Gio Osso. For $50 per person (not including tax or gratuity) you’ll get to partake in this amazing act of brotherhood, respect, comradery and community. Besides the pig roast you’ll be treated to gourmet sides, sauces and desserts along with a selection of fresh, locally brewed beers from Huss Brewing Co. and wine and cocktails provided by The Whining Pig and Tito’s Handmade Vodka.

There will also be a second event on July 31st beginning at 6pm. Crudo will host a multi-course dinner for $150 per person (not including tax or gratuity). 100% of the proceeds from the event will also go towards Chef Fletcher’s medical expenses. This one night only dinner will feature a special menu, created by Chef Kelly Fletcher himself. The twist on this one is that each of the participating chefs will put their own spin on his dishes.

My interactions with Chef Kelly Fletcher were ones of shared food and laughter. He has a unique personality and a wicked sense of humor. And his food…impeccable. Please join the Arizona Seven in their support of Chef Fletcher and wish him well on his road to recovery.

  1. It’s great to see these chefs take time despite of their busy schedule to do something great.
