2nd Annual Brewers Bowl Takes the Field 2/6/16

Posted on: January 19th, 2016 by Taryn Jeffries No Comments

On Saturday, Feb. 6 from 5 to 10 p.m., Bad Water Brewing is hosting the second annual “Brewers Bowl” craft beer festival in the heart of downtown Scottsdale. Returning for a second time after last year’s successful kick off, the event is designed to showcase the growing craft beer scene in Arizona. The Brewers Bowl will feature beer tastings from at least 18 local breweries, plus live music and food trucks. The event will benefit the Paradise Valley Emergency Food Bank, a food cooperative dedicated to providing emergency provisions to the community’s hungry.2nd Annual Brewers Bowl

The Brewers Bowl is being held during the busy Waste Management Open weekend, giving breweries from across the state a prime opportunity to showcase their creations to all of the locals and visitors who will be enjoying the weekend in the Valley. According to Bad Water Brewing’s Founder, Lewis Kubitz, “Last year’s event was a huge success, reaching capacity at more than 2,000 festival-goers. After receiving such a great response to the event, we decided to make this an annual tradition in the Valley.”

A preliminary list of participating breweries includes: 8-Bit Brewery, Bad Water Brewing, Beast Brewing, The Beer Research Institute, Cartel Brewery, Craft 64, Dubina Brewing Co., Fate Brewing Co., Freak’N Brewing Company, Goldwater Brewing Co., Huss Brewing Co., North Mountain Brewing Company, O.H.S.O. Brewery, Pedal Haus Brewery, Saddle Mountain Brewing Company, Two Brothers Artisan Brewing, Uncle Bears Brewery, and Wren House Brewing Co. Featured food trucks are Aioli Burger, Frites Street, Mustache Pretzels, and Triple Dot.

Creating a friendly competition, prior to the event, breweries can submit beer samples for a chance to be crowned the beer champion during the festival. The beers will be judged in a blind tasting competition by a panel from the Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP). Points will be tallied based on a variety of beer characteristics, including aroma, flavor, balance and drinkability, among others. Last year, North Mountain Brewing Company was awarded for their Oatmeal Stout, and they will pass along the trophy to this year’s winner. The winning brewery will take home bragging rights and the trophy that is modeled after the Vince Lombardi Trophy, showcasing a life size pony keg in place of a football.

The Brewers Bowl will be held in the heart of Old Town Scottsdale near Bad Water Brewing’s Tap Room at 4216 N. Brown Ave., Scottsdale, Ariz., 85251. The festival will be set-up on Brown Avenue between 3rd Avenue and 4th Avenue, which will be closed to vehicle traffic.

General admission is $35 dollars and includes 20 beer-tasting tickets. VIP admission is $55, and includes 25 tickets, plus one-hour early entry into the event. A portion of event proceeds will benefit the Paradise Valley Emergency Food Bank. To purchase tickets, visit www.brewersbowl.com.
