Holiday Gift Idea: Wüsthof GOURMET 8-inch Vegetable Knife
We all know that a set of good kitchen knives can make meal prep a whole lot easier (and quicker), though it can take some time to build up a good collection of quality knives if you aren’t made of money. But where to begin?
After having the opportunity to test, I’m loving Wüsthof’s new GOURMET 8-inch Vegetable Knife. If you’re unfamiliar, Wüsthof is one of the most sought-after knife manufacturers and a favorite among many professional chefs (and one of my favorite TV cooks, Ina Garten). The nearly-200-year-old-company is family-owned and managed and its headquarters are still stationed in Solingen, Germany where the company was founded. You’ll find their products among the shelves of select specialty and department stories in 80 countries around the world.
They’ve released several new knives just in time for the holidays including four new knives in their Classic line (a sushi knife, western knife, full serrated paring knife and Chinese cleaver), three new knives in their GOURMET line (a hollow-edge brisket slicer, vegetable knife and cimeter), and a new knife in their Grand Prix II line, a 9-inch double serrated bread knife.
I chose to test the 8-inch Vegetable Knife from the GOURMET line—Wüsthof’s popular laser-cut, full-tang stamped collection.
Retailing at $89.99, if you’re giving this gift for Christmas, your recipient is guaranteed to love you. The super sleek (and super sharp) knife prevents starchy vegetables from sticking to the blade with its intelligent design… so no fussing with sticky potato slices. The rounded blade’s precise row of holes, topped with a ridge made it easy to slice and dice quickly as the ridge actually pushes away the food while you’re slicing. I gave this knife a huge workout during my Thanksgiving marathon cooking and sure enough… no sticking! Because of its convenience, it makes a great ‘all-purpose’ knife while you’re building up your collection.
