Sizzling summer specials

Not only is summer a great time to beat the heat by letting someone else deal with the heat in the kitchen, it’s also a great time to sample updated menus at some of your favorite spots around town. Summer brings about a new agricultural harvest which means some restaurants are switching things up to continue to bring their patrons the freshest local ingredients. Here are just a few of the revamped menu options you can enjoy this summer.

Local Spots with Summer Specials

Details: Grimaldi’s will be debuting their BBQ Chicken Pizza. This pizza will feature plump chicken breast pieces, sweet and tangy bbq sauce, and tons of cheese!
Dates: Available starting 7/1/13.

Details: The new Summer menu will include a Fig and Goat Cheese Flatbread, Crisp Romaine and Kale Caesar, Grilled Flat Iron Steak Salad, Grilled Corn on the Cob and Broccoli Caesar among others. For the sweet treats, the addition of the Cheesecake mini indulgence will surely follow a crispy fresh salad nicely. As if the summer menu additions weren’t enough, Seasons 52 will also feature a Tasting Menu for only $29 per person with an additional $15 if you wanted to add wine pairings.

Location: 7117 East 6th Avenue, Scottsdale
Details: Garden Sundays at Kelly’s will take place on Kelly’s patio and will feature outdoor games and contests, bags, mini golf, washers, cards and more. While enjoying the backyard entertainment, guests can also indulge in delicious food from Kelly’s new outdoor patio grill. They will be serving up burgers, brats, chicken, steak and other tasty grilled items from 4-9pm. There will also be drink specials all day that will be too good to pass up, including $10 buckets of beer, $10 pitchers of house sangria, half priced bottles of wine and champagne and bottomless mimosas.

Details:  A Night with Nobuo; James Beard Award winner Chef Nobuo Fukuda of Teeter House will be the guest Chef with Roka Akor’s Executive Chef German Saga to present a special Omakase style menu. There will be two seatings at 5:30pm and 8pm and the cost will be $95 per person. Reservations are required.

Details:  Taste of Summer Seasonal Menu. Executive Chef German Sega has created a summer menu perfect for sharing. For the first time ever, Roka Akor offers a Gluten-Free menu as well as many soy and dairy free options. For $48 person (with a 2 person minimum) you can enjoy a fabulous 7 course menu of: Organic kale & tomato salada with katsuoboshi caesar dressing and rice croutons; Wild Hawaiian walu crudo with green papaya slaw, pickled jalapeños & fragrant curry; Wagyu duo Maki; Avocado tempura with grapefruit ponzu; Ume brined durham ranch muscovy duck quarter confit, with ohba jam & cucumber; Chicken kama-meshi, jidori egg yolk & crispy skin and a dessert of Redwood Hill Farm goat’s milk yogurt, with assorted fruit, Booth Hollow honey & moscato D’Asti gelee.

Details: New additions to the menu include Habanero Chicken Pasta, Cherry-Chipotle Glazed Flank Steak, Seared Ahi Tuna Salad and a Creole Blackened Cod. Some seasonal cocktails making an appearance this summer will be the Feeling Berry Lucky, My Summer Crush and a Charles & Charles Rose. Looking to feel like a kid again, try a grown-up twist with their S’Mores Cake and Root Beer Float.

Details: Cocktails anyone? Beat the heat with some cool drinks and some refreshing dishes. Take a bite out of summer with the Watermelon Kiwi Shrimp entrée. It’s a light, fruity dish made with layers of watermelon, kiwi, orange slices, and lychee, topped with shrimp. Cool off with the refreshing Watermelon Margarita; Patron Silver tequila and Cointreau orange liqueur are muddled with fresh watermelon and lime juice, then topped with a float of Grand Marnier, all for only $18 ($10 for the entree and $8 for the cocktail.)
