Does anyone else remember religiously watching ABC’s show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition? I remember when it first came out at the end of 2003, I was glued to the television. The people that were chosen were always so deserving of the makeover and there was nothing quite like hearing Ty Pennington yell, “Bus driver, move that bus!” More often than not the family member would lose their footing, stare ahead in shock and dissolve into grateful and appreciative tears. Casey’s Woodshed is getting a similar makeover.

You may remember that earlier this year Alphagraphics on University in Tempe and AWE Collective, an award-winning branding, marketing and PR firm joined forces to give a lucky local business a $25,000 re-branding and makeover package. The prize package includes an updated logo, marketing materials, new collateral designs, signage, apparel and the like. Businesses were invited to submit their application which would include why they thought they were the most deserving. After the companies poured through the entries, they settled on a winner, Casey’s Woodshed, a favorite local spot and sports bar.

The Woodshed has been around since 1979, originally a Kiwanis community fixture where local sports teams were sponsored and enjoyed cool drinks and classic American pub fare after their games. When Brandon Casey took over he wanted to ensure that the space payed tribute to its origins and the re-branding will reflect that with an illustrative 80s era vibe.

“I grew up in this neighborhood and was able to buy the Woodshed over a year ago,” said Casey’s Woodshed owner Brandon Casey. “The old girl really needed some TLC to attract new customers, but still keep her dive-bar vibes for the longtime fans. I can’t wait to see what they come up with!”

The transformation took a visionary mind and AWE Collective CEO and Creative Director Ty James Largo welcomed the challenge. “It’s a crazy fun challenge. We definitely have to keep the aged dive bar feel, but give it a cleaned up personality… sort of.”

Perks of Heading to Casey’s Woodshed Reveal Party

If you order one of the Woodshed’s new draft Moscow mules, the bar will donate a portion of the proceeds to Tempe Diablos.

“This is a locals spot through and through, and we’re very proud of that,” Casey said. “We were able to breathe new life into it while staying true to its roots, and we can’t wait for our regulars to come check it out.”
