If you’ve ever had occasion to sample the delicacies of Super Chunk, you’ll completely understand why so many have been on pins and needles awaiting the opening of New Wave Market. And it’s closer than you think!

New Wave Market Opens July 8 with Free Mini-ConesThe highly-anticipated sister concept of Super Chunk Sweets & Treats is prepared to open its doors in Old Town Scottsdale just in time for National Ice Cream Month. New Wave Market celebrates its grand opening on Saturday, July 8 with free mini ice cream cones. Both the specialty ice cream flavors and waffle cones will be made in-house by owner/pastry chef Country Velador.

New Wave Market adjoins Super Chunk with 1,100 square feet of retail space. The market has an extended menu of breads and baked goods, lunch, grab-and-go items, and locally roasted coffee from Peixoto Coffee. The shop also has an enlarged dining area encompassed by an assortment of quirky and original retail goods. Country and husband Sergio Velador plan to use the space for regular classes on baking and other crafts as well.

“We want to take back the tradition of making things,” said Country. “There’s a new wave of interest in craft – in the actual ‘how-to’ of creating something yourself. New Wave Market is our way of celebrating that.”

The market shelves are stocked with the odd, the unique and the delicious. The Veladors have sourced products from small batch makers like American Spoon, COOP’s MicroCreamery, Curio Spice Co, and Fishs Eddy. The highlight continues to be Velador’s fresh-baked goods. In addition to savory breads and take away lunch items, Country has homemade ice cream cones to go with their specialty ice creams. They’ll be welcoming guests with miniature versions of these on opening day.
