Feeling Depleted? Try this Homemade Electrolyte Drink!

If you find yourself out and about this summer, you will want to be prepared to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Our friends at Rejuvena Health & Aesthetics have shared their recipe for a homemade electrolyte drink that will not only keep you hydrated but it is more cost effective than some of the over-priced and over-sugared “sports drinks” on the market.

Try this Homemade Electrolyte Drink!The leading sports drinks you find at every local corner store a sometimes more sugar than water; loaded with genetically altered sweeteners, high fructose corn syrup and tons of artificial flavors and colors. When you are out hiking, running or just moving around in our fiercely hot summer you want to replenish your body with the electrolytes you’re losing with the best hydrating drink, not something that it going to inhibit all your efforts.

In case you didn’t know, electrolytes basically consist of calcium, sodium, potassium, magnesium chloride and some hydrogen salts. All of these are vital for our survival as they regulate nerve and muscle function, hydration, and blood pH. They are also responsible for rebuilding damaged tissue and help to determine your blood pressure. There are so many ways to get natural electrolyte replenishment from foods like coconuts, honey, and oranges. Why spend all that money on sugar-laden drinks when you can save money by making a homemade electrolyte drink?

Give some of these recipes a try to start feeling refreshed and renewed in no time!

Homemade Electrolyte Drink Recipe Ideas

Fast and Easy Recipe
1 Gallon of purified water (not tap water)
1/4 to 1/3 teaspoon sea salt
Mix together and drink up!

Citrus Cooler
1/4 cup of freshly squeezed lime juice
1/4 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
1.5 to 2 cups purified water
1/8 teaspoon of sea salt
2 tablespoons of natural sugar or honey, to taste
Put all ingredients into a blender and blend until honey is dissolved. Pour into a tall glass over a few ice cubes.

Sweet and Cool
2 cups of coconut water
1 cup of strawberries
2 cups of purified water
1 cup of ice
1/8 teaspoon of sea salt
2 tablespoons of honey, to taste
Put all ingredients into a blender and mix until smooth.

If you don’t have time to mix up your own drinks, there are healthy store-bought drinks that will work in a pinch:

  • Pure Coconut Water contains five essential electrolytes, plus more potassium than a banana. With no added sugar and no fat, it’s the most natural way to re-hydrate and replenish lost nutrients.
