Mixing Global Eats with Tasty Beats, Joe’s Midnight Run Drops in Central Phoenix in Mid-March

The former Joe’s Drive-Thru liquor has been transformed into a stylish, chef-driven restaurant & lounge featuring all-wood-fired fare, craft drinks and killer tunes served daily until 2am

Phoenix’s dining, drinking, music & nightlife scenes are about to get a whole lot tastier when Joe’s Midnight Run restaurant & lounge opens in mid-March in the heart of Central Phoenix’s popular 7th Street dining district. Housed inside the longtime former home to Joe’s Drive-thru Liquor, this stylishly revamped brick-lined midcentury space tempts with a chef-crafted menu of all-wood-fired fare paired with a worldly selection of craft beer, spirits & wine on tap. Open weekdays at 11 am and 9:30am for weekend brunch, and always serving a full menu daily until 2 am, Joe’s Midnight Run (6101 N. 7th St., Phoenix; 480.459.4467) also boasts the Valley’s best music mix, including classic 80s and 90s cuts ranging from booming hip hop to rowdy rock and roll. Combined with Joe’s to-go 40-ounce beer growlers, and you can see why Joe’s tagline is “80s, 90s and 40s.”

Led by owner and real estate developer, Rick Cordova, the Joe’s Midnight Run building was originally going to be scraped and turned into a parking lot for a larger mixed-use commercial building located next door. “But the more I looked at the building,” Cordova says, “the more I fell in love with its 1950s charm, clean midcentury forms and great bones.” Inspired, Cordova decided to transform the space into the sort of funky, tasty and music-fueled venues that he loved back in his hometown of Chicago. “Joe’s is a chef-driven lounge that’s not at all pretentious, but offers killer food all-day through late-night. And the music is instrumental to providing the right vibe – think classic Dr. Dre and Eazy E., transitioning to Guns N’ Roses and Metallica, with a little Blondie thrown in for good measure. One thing we’re not is kitschy retro stuff, with neon-colored legwarmers and cheesy hair-band music.”

At Joe’s Midnight Run, Cordova has assembled an all-star band, including executive chef, Michael Goldsmith (Lon’s, Joyride Taco House), designer Mike Rumpeltin of Brick & West (The Yard, Postino Tempe) and consultants, Troy Watkins and Kyu Utsunomiya of Be: Coffee + Food + Stuff. Together they crafted an all-wood-fired menu cooked on wood-burning grills and ovens, with no ranges or stovetops in sight. Built around a globe-spanning menu of hearty, sharable dishes, Joe’s also specializes in regional parings, such as a Argentinean skirt steak or grilled sweetbreads with Argentinean red wine; Belgian mussels with Belgian beer; Spanish-style octopus with crisp Spanish wine; a Southwestern burger with AZ wine; or Brazilian-style ahi tuna with Brazilian beer. Serving high-quality food until 2 am daily, Joe’s also features 4-5 larger entrées such as whole-roasted trout.

Carved into a compact 1,800-sq.-ft. space seating 60 inside and an additional 40 on the expansive street-front patio, Joe’s Midnight Run stripped away decades of stucco, paint and graffiti to reveal the original terracotta slump block walls. Joe’s also installed an open kitchen, right down to the dishwashing station, so guests can watch their food being hand-fired as they soak in the polished concrete floors and vibrant artwork including the vintage “breakdance” sign, and the oversized music lyrics painted on the walls such as “Today was a good day” – Ice Cube; and “You can have anything you want, but you better not take it from me” – Guns N’ Roses.

Keep up with all the latest, greatest going on at Joe’s Midnight Run by following them on social media (www.facebook.com/JoesMidnightRun, Twitter & Instagram @JoesMidnightRun). Plus, be sure to tag your #Jomies that Joe’s is back and serving up the Valley’s most righteous blend of eclectic eats, beats, brews and vibes. Open Mon. – Fri. (11 am to 2 am) & Sat. – Sun. (9:30 am – 2 am), Joe’s Midnight Run is located at 6101 N. 7th St. in Phoenix, 85014. For more information call 480.459.4467 or visit www.joesmidnightrun.com.
