What’s all the Hullabaloo About Hopdoddy Burger Bar?

Posted on: February 19th, 2016 by Taryn Jeffries 6 Comments

With the opening of the new Town & Country Hopdoddy Burger Bar location, you may wonder what is all the hullabaloo about this burger joint. I mean. a burger is just a burger, right? That couldn’t be further from the truth! There are burger and then there are Hopdoddy Burgers.

Hopdoddy Burger Bar; What does Hopdoddy meanA statement like that needs some clarification and we’re here to give that to you. Hopdoddy Burger Bar has received a lot of nationwide attention, from their Primetime Burger being named one of the best burgers in the US by Rachel Ray Magazine to the Reader’s Choice of best burger by Food & Wine. You can also check out a fun video of some of the most notable culinary personalities in Austin trying out their Ghost Pepper Burger on Zagat.

So what exactly makes their burgers so special? First off are the variety of proteins you can use for your burger base; Black Angus beef, Texas Akaushi beef, bison, lamb, turkey, chicken, ahi as well as a black bean and corn veggie version. The meats are ground in house and throughout the day. The buns (classic egg, whole wheat and gluten-free) are baked in-house on the daily. Many of their liquors are also being shaken up daily like limoncello and triple-sec to start.

And where else can you feed that beefy craving while enjoying a delightful grown-up milkshake? You can easily admit that there is something childlike about indulging in a burger and a milkshake, but the offerings at Hopdoddy are more for the big kids with discerning palates. For example, I would have never looked twice at an ahi tuna burger, but as a “sophisticated” adult, I can’t think of anything more divine. This burger is built from sushi-grade tuna, sunflower sprouts, nori chips, teriyaki, honey wasabi, mayo, pickled ginger, red leaf lettuce, white onion and a beefsteak tomato. The briny nori chips partnered with the ahi tuna will remind you of your favorite sushi roll, especially when you grab a bite with the wasabi and ginger. Its a whole new burger world.

If you are looking for something with a little more bite, their Terlingua burger might be more your speed. This Southwest inspired burger comprises a black Angus exciting s burger, chile con carne, Tillamook Cheddar, corn fritos (because, fritos!), sassy sauce (their special mustard/mayo blend), red leaf lettuce, white onion and a beefsteak tomato. The kicky con carne and the crisp crunch of the fritos add an exciting texture contrast that might just put a little giddy in your up!

One of the coolest things that Hopdoddy does is that they have a Goodnight/ Good Cause burger on the menu at all time, and in all locations. The restaurant will create a special burger that is aligned with a local non-profit organization. One dollar from each special burger will go to the specified charity. The Goodnight/ Good Cause burgers will rotate throughout the month (they typically last for 2 weeks on average). Once the Town & Country location opens, the first Goodnight/ Good Cause burger will be the No More Mr. Nice Guy with proceeds going to Alice Cooper’s Solid Rock Foundation. The No More Mr. Nice Guy will feature an Angus beef burger, tillamook cheddar, caramelized onions, jalapenos, hickory BBQ sauce, sassy sauce, red leaf lettuce and a beefsteak tomato. Prepare for the heat and a burn that hurts so good.

Let’s pretend for a minute that you came to a spot with “Burger Bar” in the name and just don’t have a taste for a burger. Maybe you’re saving room for one of their tasty shakes. If that’s the case you can full up on any one of their salads, the Hail Cesar, Spinach & Arugula or their Baby Kale.

Wrap up your grown up burgers with one of their sweet shakes. You can go old school with their vanilla bean or oreo cookie shakes, or get fancy with your dairy with the caramel & sea salt, red velvet cake, chocolate stout or nutella & chocolate pretzel options.

So, its easily a no-brainer that we should all be lined out the door for the grand opening on 2.22.16. Do what you need to do to clear your calendar, and to sweeten the pot, how would you like a VIP invitation to the Soft Opening? All you need to do is leave a comment about what you want to try first from the Hopdoddy menu and I will pick a random winner the night before the opening.

So many delicious burgers (and they offer GF buns too, way to go Hopdoddy!). For salad lovers, they have you covered too! Yummo! Get the No More Mr. Nice Guy burger and the proceeds go to the Alice Cooper’s Solid Rock Foundation. Enjoy a delicious meal and do good at the same time. If I win a VIP ticket, I would love to get the “No more Mr. Nice Guy” burger for sure.

    • I love that there are so many options, too, Susan. From the creative burger to their salads and milkshakes. Its hard to pin down just one choice, but I love that you chose the Goodnight/Good Cause burger!

I don’t love burgers but my mom does so whenever I treat her to dinner or lunch I take her there and become her favorite child. After eating there I always think I should be eating more burgers…especially Hopdoddy burgers!
