Foster A Little Love Without the Gluten

Posted on: October 22nd, 2014 by Taryn Jeffries 14 Comments

If your house is anything like mine, you probably have a multitude of tastes. For example, I have one, Thing Two, who is pretty much a garbage disposal. He will eat anything you put in front of him and probably as for more later. Thing One on the other hand is much like that one friend that you dread going out to eat with. “Okay, I guess I will try Random Dish, but can you have the chef leave out the BLANK (which is the actual main focus of said dish) and can you make sure that the sauce/side or any integral component of the dish that without it would equate to a flavorless tasteless entree?” Once such substitutions are made and requests fulfilled, he will not even eat a quarter of it and then say that he’s not hungry, which as a 9 year old boy pretty much means that he would rather starve than eat that mess of a dish you presented to him.

Foster Farms Gluten Free Corn DogsSo, when I was given the opportunity to try Foster Farms new gluten-free corn dogs, I was interested to see how Thing Two would react to them. The corn dogs are made with chicken franks and then dipped twice in a honey crunch batter. Both boys made quick work of my sample offering from Foster Farms, though thankfully Mr. Jeffries was able to put a few aside for me to try. I must admit, I’m not big on corn dogs, but the honey crunch coating was something that we talked about for quite some time. It’s a subtle sweetness, not sickeningly so, but it adds such a light and fun flavor, and let’s be real – you really can’t not smile when eating food from a stick. It brings about thoughts and memories of being a child at a county fair.

I was concerned that with these corn dogs being gluten free that I might have felt that something was missing, but that wasn’t the case. While I do not have a gluten sensitivity or allergy, I can honestly say that you won’t be able to tell that these are any different than any other type of corn dog on the market. I thoroughly enjoyed those that I had and both Thing One and Thing Two enjoyed them so much that, well, we’re going to have to make a trip to the grocery store to replenish our stash. I think that they are a nice item to have on hand, as a convenience food that you  or your children (depending on their age) can easily prepare, as they can be made in the microwave, toaster oven or conventional oven.

In addition to the Corn Dogs, Foster Farms also has Gluten Free Breast Nuggets and Breast Strips in their Gluten Free Family of products, all certified by the Gluten Intolerance Group. Head out to your nearest store and try some for yourself – or you can enter here to win some of your own.
