Frank Family Vineyards: Taking a vote

Posted on: January 28th, 2014 by Tom Peiffer 1 Comment

For many of us who lift a glass of Frank Family wine on a fairly regular basis, there is little hesitation when we are asked to “pull the lever” and help them win an award.  Hey, open the page, click the button, and vote.  What could be simpler?Frank Family Vineyards: Taking a vote

Well, the effort paid off; last year they were listed Best Winery in Napa for 2012, at least according to the ABC Channel 7’s “SF Bay A-List”!  Now we have a chance to put them back on top for 2013!  Interested?  Just click here and vote away; a must-do if you’re already a Frank Family Fan.

So what do they have going for them?  Why did they win in 2012?  A clue, there is a lot more to it than just a pile of online votes.

If their wine wasn’t among Napa’s best, it would have been easy to delete their email voting offer and not affirm their excellence.  But they have a fabulous lineup & that’s what matters.

In fact, if you’ve been invited to a friend’s place for dinner and have no clue about what wine(s) to bring, staying with one or more of Frank Family’s selections is an excellent bet.  Below are a few recommendations starting with the most versatile pairing partners at the top of the list:

  1. Pinot Noir
  2. Blancs de Blancs (sparkling wine)
  3. Chardonnay
  4. Cabernet Sauvignon
  5. Zinfandel

Of course, if it’s going to be for a potluck and you have no idea of what food is being served, pick #1 and #2.  As a team, these two wines will go along with just about any dish that can be served, except for something really spicy.

With the exception of the Blancs de Blancs, all of these wines are available at Phoenix area Total Wine stores at prices ranging from $28-$42.  AJs has been stocking the Blancs de Blancs for under $50, and also stocks most of the others, but it varies.  If you really want to impress, have The Wine Store (formerly Sportsman’s) order a bottle of their “Rutherford Reserve” Cabernet.  It’s a big one with a finish that goes for well over a minute!

Sharing these experiences to help anyone purchase locally available wines is his goal.
