Distrito previews taco fest hopefuls with Taco Thursdays
The Arizona Taco Festival, one of the Valley’s most anticipated food festivals, is nearing and to gear up for the competition, Distrito is hosting Taco Thursdays every week in October. As last year’s grand taco champion, they will be testing out new recipes and collecting feedback from guests to choose which taco shines brightest for the festival’s taco competition.
Chef Nathan Johnson (Chef de Cuisine) has teamed up with Chef Jose Garces (Iron Chef and mastermind behind the Distrito concepts) for weeks, crafting top-notch taco potentials worthy of taking home the grand prize again this year.
Head in each Thursday this month to pick your favorite for the upcoming AZ Taco Fest (October 20-12). For $15, you’ll get 3 tacos plus a Tecate or margarita to wash them down with. Check out the taco lineup below:
- October 4: Cabrito | Goat, black beans, orange-habanero salsa, goat crema (pictured above)
- October 11: Carne Kobe | Flat iron steak, truffle potato, tomato-horseradish escabeche, Yukon fries
- October 18: Oysters Rodriguez | Oysters, plantain, creamed spinach, huacatay
- October 25: Fan Favorite from Arizona Taco Festival
Two nights before the big festival, Distro will host a Don Julio Tequila & Tacos Dinner featuring a selection of tacos paired with tequila cocktails. The special dinner takes place at 6pm on Thursday, October 18 and is priced at $60 per person, plus tax and gratuity. RSVP is required as seating is limited.
