Cupcake Camp Chandler: Come Get Your Sugar On!

Posted on: March 22nd, 2011 by Taryn Jeffries No Comments

So, let’s say you have been to one or both of the BBQ festivals on March 26th, and you’re still hungry, but for maybe something a little less… meaty. Head over to Cupcake Camp Chandler for a little sugar!

Cupcake Camp Chandler is a free event from 9am- 4pm on March 26th, held at the Chandler Senior Center. The intention is to bring the community together for a fun (and delicious) day of cupcake education, mingling with local bakers and the sweet, sweet tasting!

Cupcake Camp Chandler expands on the Cupcake Camp concept, which originated in San Francisco. Cupcake Camp was born out of a desire for people to gather and eat cupcakes in an open environment. Cupcake lovers bring their cupcake creations, and everyone in the community is encouraged to come and sample locally baked goods.

While you are busy getting your sugar high, listen to speakers sharing their expertise and passion for baking. There will be a variety of speakers sharing their insights on “Basic Baking Science” as well as “Decorating with Flair”, just to name a few.

There will also be a cupcake business panel, which will help local bakers who might be interested in taking their hobby to the next step.

“With the popularity of shows like Cupcake Wars and Cake Boss, it’s clear there’s a large demographic of baking enthusiasts who need an outlet for their passion,” said Katie Charland, Director of Operations for Gangplank. “Cupcake Camp Chandler brings together people of similar mind with an opportunity to take their passion to the next level.”

The event is co-organized by Gangplank and Kelly Garcia of Butter & Me, who planned Cupcake Love-In, which brings the public together to enjoy hundreds of cupcakes by local bakeries.

Several local businesses will be presenting at the event including:

  • Kelly Garcia of Butter & Me (Co-organizer)
  • Joan and Tim O’Conner of Honey Moon Sweets
  • Nikki Danner-Anderson of The Cupcake Café
  • Karen Liberty of The Pastry Shop
  • Stephanie Dible of Cakes by Stephanie
  • ABC Baking Cake Decorating & Party Supplies
