New Queso Crunch Burrito available at El Pollo Loco

Posted on: August 5th, 2010 by Amy Martin No Comments

El Pollo Loco released its new “limited time only” Queso Crunch Burrito on July 24th.  The combination of soft and crunchy components gives this burrito an interesting texture with a spicy kick. The Queso Crunch Burrito made its first debut on the El Pollo Loco menu in February of 2008. Since it was such a hit, the burrito has now returned and will remain available until the end of September this year. The new crunchy burrito is available in either the signature El Pollo Loco flame-grilled chicken or the new citrus-marinated, flame grilled Carne Asada style sirloin steak.

The Queso Crunch Burrito includes a generous filling of your choice of the flame-grilled chicken or Carne Asada style sirloin, jack and poblano queso, fresh Pico de Gallo salsa, crispy tortilla strips and optional jalapeno slices.

I recently was invited to visit the El Pollo Location at 6535 W. Indian School in Phoenix to try the Queso Crunch Burrito for myself. The staff was so courteous, friendly and helpful. As I observed from my table, I noticed the staff actually hand-delivering orders to each table. The restaurant had ample seating and was filled with families, co-workers and groups of friends enjoying their lunch hour.

I opted for the citrus-marinated, flame grilled Carne Asada style sirloin for my Queso Crunch Burrito. That’s a mouthful, right? It really was. The burrito is quite large in size and is packed full with flavor. I ordered my burrito with jalapenos and… holy fireballs it’s spicy!  So much steak was piled into the burrito that this could have easily been split with a friend. The queso and fresh Pico de Gallo paired with the colorful, crunchy tortilla strips added the softness and crunchiness this burrito claims to have. A great burrito especially for someone who loves a spicy kick! While you’re there, be sure to ask for some of their avocado salsa. It’s the perfectly smooth, cool topping for a burrito as spicy as this (especially if you order it with jalapenos)! I also tried the flame-grilled chicken which was especially delicious and cooked perfectly. I can see why El Pollo Loco calls this its “famous menu item”.

The entire menu may be viewed online as well as the catering menu.
