New Menu | Sierra Bonita Grill returns to ranch roots

Posted on: January 22nd, 2019 by Taryn Jeffries No Comments

Sierra Bonita has been dazzling diners in North Central Phoenix since 2005. With a menu that reflects the diverse flavors of the Southwest, it is hard to improve on a good thing. Now, for the first time in eight years, they are switching up the menu.

The restaurant gets its moniker from the oldest, continuous family-run ranch in Arizona; the Sierra Bonita Ranch in Wilcox. The ranch was synonymous with progress and hospitality, a reputation the restaurant strives for as well.

Throughout the years, Sierra Bonita’s menu has focused on their personalized brand of Mexican cuisine. Owner Nate Hopper recognizes that history but also has a call to bring the menu back to its roots.

“When I first learned about Sierra Bonita Ranch, I knew that I wanted Sierra Bonita Grill to honor our state’s ranching heritage. The updated menu now puts more emphasis on ‘out on the range’ cowboy-style cooking, while still integrating ingredients prominent in Mexican and Native American cuisine. We’re representing the old west, with a modern approach,” said Hopper.

Sierra Bonita New Menu Items

The updated menu will feature a “From the Ranch” section. This section will feature a variety of chops, steaks and chicken dishes. Some of those items include New York Strip ($38), 18 oz. split bone-in ribeye ($42) and Half roasted chicken ($27). Each entree comes with your choice of side dish and housemade sauce. Side dish options are baked potato, seasonal veggies, green chile mac n’ cheese or green chile scalloped potatoes. Specialty sauces include horseradish cream, roasted tomatillo, roasted guajillo chile au jus and chimichurri.

If you’re looking for something a little lighter, don’t despair. Try the Vegetable Noodles and Shrimp ($28.) This dish has a mixture of squash and zucchini noodles topped with shrimp and a butter, citrus and white wine sauce. They also have a special Avocado Toast ($10) that is topped with arugula, cherry tomatoes cotija, radish and lemon oil.

A few new salads have also been added to the lunch and dinner menus. The Roasted Brussels Sprout salad ($16) has my name all over it. It comes with grilled shrimp, mixed greens, Brussels sprouts, red beets, goat cheese, red onion, dried cranberries and toasted almonds with a balsamic vinaigrette to top it off. Looking for that classic salad experience? Check out the Bacon Wedge ($16.) Classic iceberg lettuce wedge, bacon crumbles, spiced pecans, black beans, cherry tomatoes, red onion, bleu cheese and a balsamic reduction create an elevated steakhouse salad experience.

If you’re a regular and are worried that some of your favorites have gotten the boot from the menu, don’t worry. The infamous Buttermilk Chicken, Smoked Red and Green Chile Pork Roast, Carne Asada, Grilled Fish Tacos and the signature SBG Burger are all still there.

Make sure to head into Sierra Bonita Grill to check out the new menu items and some of your tried-and-true favorites.
