Chef Film Inspires Community Conversation

Posted on: May 13th, 2014 by Taryn Jeffries No Comments

Valley residents have known for quite a while the importance of our food community. From restaurants to farmers markets all the way to the food truck community, there is a strong presence and following to the standouts in our community. It appears that Hollywood has caught on to the community and significance and has attempted to encapsulate that in the upcoming film Chef.

Chef FilmChef stars Jon Favreau, John Leguizamo, Scarlett Johansson, Dustin Hoffman, Sofia Vergera, Robert Downey Junior and countless others. The film, in a nutshell, focuses on a chef who loses his high profile restaurant job after succumbing to his ego and responding to a negative review. He then starts up a food truck in order to regain his passion and piece together his estranged family. You can view the movie trailer here.

With the buzz that has been created around the star-studded film, the Phoenix Public Market Café and Short Leash Hot Dogs have teamed up to provide a Lunch & Learn to help celebrate the movie as well as initiate a conversation about the focus of the film. On Friday May 16th, the official release date of the film, the community is invited to attend a lively lunch and learn at 11:30am at the Phoenix Public Market Café. PPMC chef and owner Aaron Chamberlin and Short Leash co-owner will be hosting a discussion about the real lives of Chefs, how street food is influencing the way we all look at and approach food as well as the importance of passion in the kitchen. You’ll also be treated to a farm-fresh salad from PPMC.

$25 dollars will get you a seat at the lunch and learn, lunch, a $10 food ticket to be used at any of the food trucks during Phoenix Public Market’s Food Truck Friday, two tickets to a weekday showing of Chef as well as poster from the film. Reservations are required based on limited seating and can be made by calling the Café at 602.253.2700. The Phoenix Public Market Café is located at 14 E. Pierce in Phoenix.
