Friday Bites With Robert Carlson III
Are you a wine lover? If so, you’re likely familiar with Carlson Creek Vineyard just outside of Wilcox, Arizona. The family owned vineyard and wine-making operation boasts 160 acres of vines used to produce Rhone-style varietals. As a partner in the vineyard, Robert Carlson III knows a thing or two about the best foods to pair with the Carlson Creek Vineyard portfolio of wines. With his time split between the vineyard and the Valley, Robert has a ton of favorite spots and he’s graciously shared them with us!
Friday Bites with Robert Carlson III
Best Wine Bar | Kazimierz World Wine Bar
Other than being a really cool place to listen to music and enjoy the wine, they have a great selection. Their list lets you be adventurous and has reasonable by-the-glass prices. Plus the cheese plates are awesome.
Impressing Out of Towners | Wrigley Mansion
The view, the decor, the fact that it is members only, and the amazing food and wine. Membership is very affordable so you will look great when you take them to your “private club.” Get the Scottish Salmon. Trust me.
Dining Solo | Beckett’s Table and/or Southern Rail
Any of Justin Beckett and Scott Stephan’s restaurants, Beckett’s Table or Southern Rail. The community tables give you a chance to meet fellow diners and just enjoy the evening in a relaxed atmosphere. Try the grilled cheese at Beckett’s Table and the ribs at Southern Rail (also order some Carlson Creek **shameless plug**).
Oldie but Goodie | Durant’s
The only place I know of in Phoenix where you feel like you are going to get whacked, or at the very least see a mob boss. Entering through the kitchen gives you that cool Swingers feeling. This is a steakhouse and they do it right.
First Date Spot | DeSoto Central Market
Now hear me out, you do not need linen tablecloths and candles; first dates are about getting to know a person, and trying to be yourself. Plenty of great eats and drinks, with a low-pressure atmosphere. Plus they have an oyster bar *wink*wink*.
**Bonus**
Best Patio | Postino Central
Yes, it is a small patio but I love it. Tucked away with just the right amount of sun, a bar down one side and good local musicians. Get the bruschetta, and tip the musician.
Authentic Arizona | LON’s at the Hermosa Inn
You can’t get more authentic than an adobe hacienda built by a cowboy in the 1930’s. Not to mention the one-of-a-kind patio with views of Camelback Mountain. LON’s is the quintessential Arizona restaurant, with amazing food from Chef Pacheco and an award-winning wine list (which happens to also include Carlson Creek).
Best Burger | Bitter & Twisted Cocktail Parlor
Hands down, their Dragon Dumpling Burger is the best burger you’ll have all year. A beef + pork patty on an English muffin with jalapeño mayo and dumpling sauce. So unique, and so good.
