Community: Come Together This Weekend for Great Cause

Guillain-Barre SyndromeSometime between the tacos and tequila, you should make time to do a little good.

Most of us have been fortunate enough to lead a healthy life, with little troubles or worries – at least I hope that’s the case for you.

My little sister recently brought my attention to a situation that one of her friends was in. Twenty-two year old Rishad was diagnosed with a condition called Guillain-Barre syndrome five months ago. This syndrome is a rare disorder in which your body’s immune syndrome attacks your nerves. The symptoms sometimes come on slowly, starting with numbness in the extremeties. Once they hit however, they can quickly spread and can paralyze the entire body. There is no known cause for Guillain-Barre symdrome, although it is often preceded by an infectious illness such as a stomach flu or respiratory infection. As well as there is no known cause for the syndrome, there is no known cure. Treatment can lessen the symptoms and most people recover from the sydrome, but not without some lingering effects.

Rishad’s condition is on the upswing at present, but there is still a long road ahead of him; a long road that includes an ever increasing amount of medical bills.

If you are on the West side of town on Sunday morning, be sure to stop by Chilly Bombers after 9 am to participate in the car wash and help a young man to recover from this aggressive and debilitating condition as well as the pressure of mounting medical bills.

If you can’t make it out to the event but still want to get involved, you can donate to the cause online.

Chilly Bombers is located at 4917 W. Bell Rd. in Glendale.
