TEXAZ Grill has been a fixture in the valley since 1985. Longtime owner Steve Freidkin has been an integral part of the more than 950,081 chicken fried steaks that have been served up on the corner of 16th Street and Bethany Home Road as well as the welcome ambiance and down-home feel of the restaurant. Coming to terms with stepping away from the restaurant didn’t come easily, but he feels confident leaving TEXAZ Grill in the hands of new owners, the Nguyen family.
“After three plus decades as owner, chief cook and bottle washer at TEXAZ Grill, I’m ready to ride offinto the sunset,” says Steve Freidkin. “But first I had to make sure that my staff and our customers, who are both like family to me, were all ingreat hands. It was very important to me that TEXAZ remains a family-runrestaurant.” Freidkin will be assisting the Nguyen’s during the transition throughout the month of November and says longtime TEXAZ Grill fans will continue to love the spot. “The staff makes TEXAZ Grill great, and I know that they will have the same friendly service and use the same recipes that we’ve had for the past 33 years, including chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, TEXAZ Red Chili, pecan pie, and more.”
The Nguyen family has lived in Phoenix since 2007 and were fast fans of the restaurant and are excited to maintain the legacy of the iconic spot. “Our entire family is excited to take the reins at TEXAZ Grill and continue the proud traditions started by Steve Freidkin and Jim Mitchell way back in 1985,” says Long Nguyen, who will run the restaurant with his family and the existing management team. “Most important, we want TEXAZ fans to know their restaurant is in good hands, and we look forward to serving up Phoenix’s best steaks, chicken fried steaks and more for another 33 years.”
If you’re new to town and unfamiliar with all things TEXAZ Grill, this truly Texas eatery features award-winning BBQ, hearty traditional Texas chili and some truly remarkable chicken fried steak. The restaurant cuts their steaks in house daily using only USDA Choice aged beef and their signature desserts, like pecan pie or bread pudding, will warm your heart and soul and take you back to memories or treasured family gatherings.
