Happy Hour Beat | Friendly Folks and Tasty Plates at Phoenix City Grille

Happy Hour Beat_ Friendly Folks and Tasty Plates at Phoenix City Grille

Some of my favorite things about happy hour are weekend hours and a good selection of quality appetizers with discounted pricing. I found these at Phoenix City Grille, which has been a staple at 16th Street and Bethany Home Road in central Phoenix for more than 20 years. While many shops, restaurants and businesses have changed in this bustling area, locals can count on Phoenix City Grille for friendly service and tasty food with local ingredients and a Southwestern flair. The Phoenix City Grille crowd includes groups and couples but it’s the kind of place where you can sit alone at the bar and engage in friendly conversation with bartenders and patrons who are happy to share their food and drink recommendations.

Phoenix City Grille offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

I have had many well composed dinners at Phoenix City Grille with fresh ingredients, thoughtful cocktails, delicious desserts and knowledgeable service. Based on my great dinner experiences I thought I’d try happy hour and I was not disappointed.

Green chile pork is a happy hour favorite at Phoenix City Grille.

Happy hour is available at Phoenix City Grille every day of the week from 3-6pm in the bar area and until closing on Monday and Tuesday. The happy hour menu includes a variety of small plates with a $2 discount from regular menu prices. Vegetarian plates include lightly fried eggplant bites with red pepper relish for $6 and hummus with fresh vegetables and pita for $8. Happy hour favorites at Phoenix City Grille include griddled corn cakes for $10, bacon wrapped shrimp for $8, chicken and beef skewers with peanut sauce and jalapeno jam for $10 and green chile pork served in a skillet with warm tortillas and toppings for $12. Sriracha-honey glazed pork ribs are on the happy hour menu for $10 but are not on the restaurant’s regular menu like most of the happy hour items. The meat is tender and the sauce is very spicy with a hint of sweetness.

Hummus is served with vegetables, pita and a balsamic drizzle.

Happy hour beverages include $5 well drinks and drafts. Wines that are regularly $9.50 a glass and under are available for $7 during happy hour with red and white options. A house martini is also $7. Although the restaurant’s specialty drinks aren’t on happy hour, they are tasty and well-crafted. If you aren’t sure what you want to drink, you can tell the bartenders what alcohol and flavors you like and they will make you something delicious.

I’m glad I tried happy hour at Phoenix City Grille and it’s great to know that it is available on the weekends and all night on Mondays and Tuesdays. With good food, friendly service and welcoming atmosphere in a great location, I plan to come back.
