Get Baked…

Something Baked was created by Ashley Stone officially in February of 2010, but was in the making for a long time before that.

Spending her summer in Alaska, Ashley worked part time at a coffeehouse that was located in the historic Russian Orthodox block of town. The coffeehouse was located in an original building from the 1900’s and was one of the first buildings in Kenai and one of the few ones to survive the war. Ashley stated that “the building was amazing: Purple Heart wood floors, different colored walls and a large chalkboard showcased the menu. When I stepped into the coffeehouse for the first time, I immediately fell in love.”

The following summer, she got her first job at the coffee house washing dishes three times a week. Fast forward two summers later and she had graduated from daytime dish-girl to night-time chef. “It was during these hours when the dinner “crowd” was slow I was able to create new inventions. Inspired by my grandmother’s chocolate chip thumb, I began making cookies: Chocolate Chip, Oatmeal, Milk Dud mystery, and finally…Craisins with White Chocolate Chip.  We sold the cookies immediately; however, creating a masterpiece at the coffee shop was never really recognized as everything was beyond amazing there.”

Ashley then proceeded to treating her friends and family to her creations and was encouraged to give them as gifts for the holidays, business appreciation gifts and the like. It was suggested that she start a business selling the cookies. At first, she found the idea a bit laughable thinking, “Who really wants to buy cookies?” She said after much demand and “sweet consideration”, Something Baked was born.

Ashley makes magic in the kitchen solo for the time being, testing out new recipes and flavors on friends and family. She prides herself on bringing twists to the classics cookie recipes with a salty influence.

When asked what sets her cookies apart from other bakeries she shared, “The cookies really are that good. I think when people take their first bite they are interested. After their second bite, they are hooked.”

Currently Something Baked is offering up four kinds of cookies:
