As a resident of the East Valley for the better part of the last 11 years, I have been fortunate to see the culinary scene flourish. There are so many independent restaurants that my family frequents and that are top of the list when asked for recommendations. While we are 98% local loving and supporting, sometimes chain restaurants come around that we just can’t help but be excited about. Shake Shack is one of those places and in just a matter of days, I’m tickled to know that there is just one down the street for when the craving hits.
On Wednesday, January 15th the new Gilbert Shake Shack will open at 11am. Located just outside of San Tan Village on Williams Field Road, this spot is sure to get some serious foot traffic. Shake Shack is known around the country as a modern roadside burger joint, regarded for its 100% all-natural Angus beef burgers, chicken sandwiches and griddled flat-top hot dogs. My favorite is their crispy crinkle-cut french fries and that oh-so-good cheese sauce. My kids are fans of the fresh-made frozen custards. The cult following is real, friends.
One of the more exciting things that Shake Shack does is that they create special items based on their location. The Gilbert Shake Shack will be getting a few special frozen custard concrete concoctions:
- Chocolate Truffle Cookie Cone – Chocolate and vanilla custard, sugar cone, chocolate truffle cookie dough, marshmallow sauce
- Hopscotch – Vanilla custard, chocolate toffee, Zak’s Chocolate chocolate chunks, salted caramel sauce
- Pie Oh My – Vanilla custard, Four & Twenty Blackbirds seasonal pie
We are also fans of how they incorporate local beers into their beverage program. You can add on local brews from SanTan Brewing, Huss Brewing Company, Papago Brewing Company and Phx Beer Co. to your order as well as Shake Shack’s house red, rose or white.

As part of Shake Shack’s mission to Stand For Something Good, the San Tan Village Shack will donate 5% of sales from our Pie Oh My concrete to Follow Your Heart Animal Rescue, a non-profit foster-based rescue providing compassionate quality care for abandoned and abused animals.
The 3,100-square-foot Shack will feature an outdoor patio with ample seating for guests. In keeping with Shake Shack’s commitment to green architecture and eco-friendly construction, the Gilbert Shake Shack will be constructed with recycled and sustainable materials. Booths will be made from lumber certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, and tabletops will be made from salvaged walnut tables.
