Travel | Sonoma Wine Country’s Farmhouse Inn Offers an Electric Experience

Glaring lights, traffic, towering buildings and unidentifiable smells–all the wonders and joys of metropolitan living that you’ll leave behind as you travel 60 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge to California’s wine country.  And fortunately for wine country guests, it’s never been easier to get around and to Sonoma.

Tesla designs and builds the most advanced cars in the world today.  These tricked out machines are fast, attractive and can even drive themselves. All on pure electricity. Farmhouse Inn is presenting a unique guest amenity that is concentrated on providing visitors with a different way to explore – in a Tesla. Farmhouse Inn will offer guests wine tours in the hotel’s new Model X, as well as daily dinner runs to the adjacent downtown Healdsburg – they’d offer self-driving tours but the insurance company vetoed that possibility… Wine tours will start off at $400 per couple and are dependent on to availability.

For guests visiting wine country via air travel, there is good news here as well.  Getting to wine country is also about to be smoother with the addition of numerous new flights to Sonoma’s STS airport. Beginning in June, a nonstop flight from Minneapolis via American Airlines and regular passenger flights from SFO to STS via United Airlines will be available. Visitors can now skip the rental car line and atrocious traffic (you’ll undoubtedly want to skip these…) as the new United flights drop travelers five miles from the Farmhouse Inn.

There’s no time like the present – grab your bags and jump in our Tesla… a glass of wine at check-in is waiting for you.  Existing direct flights are available from LAX, Orange County, San Diego, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Portland, and Seattle.

Farmhouse Inn Renovations

In 2014, sibling-owners Catherine and Joe Bartolomei unveiled an $8 million property-wide improvement. Highlights of the redesign include nine new luxury guest quarters, a fresh farm-to-table spa and extensive landscaping throughout the property. The redesign’s primary purpose was to establish an environment of cozy warmth and a genuine retreat within wine country. The rooms have a domestic quality and that isn’t an accident. The spa is an open-air wonder with soaring ceilings, stall doors and a welcoming fireplace in the foyer. Throughout the property, guests will find niches to partake of a glass of wine and their favorite book.

The reverence for the freshly renovated Farmhouse Inn continues to flow in, as does the coverage in influential periodicals. Just recently the Farmhouse Inn was acknowledged as the number one hotel in California on the 2015 and 2016 Travel + Leisure World’s Best List. Other honors include Sunset Magazine’s Travel Award for Best Wine Country Inn and one of Andrew Harper’s Best Wine and Food Resort on the recently published Grand Award Winners list. Farmhouse Inn has also recently been identified as the Best Culinary Experience by Virtuoso at their Best of the Best award ceremony.

With two years of the completed expansion under their belts, owners Catherine and Joe Bartolomei aren’t finished with changes – the intention is to continually keep pressing onward. They regularly task their team to figure out measures to augment the guest experience and deliver thoughtful hospitality. Farmhouse Inn continues to lead the charge as Sonoma’s premier destination.
