World of Beer: More than Just a Pretty Pint

With a name like World of Beer there should be no question that you’ll find a variety of craft beers from all over the world, and that you will. There are currently 50 beers on draft with too many more to count available by the bottle. A quick perusal of their website and you will find a search option in which you can look for beers based on country of origin, alcohol by volume, color and style.World of Beer Logo

If you are lucky enough to pop in while JP, the World of Beer beer purchaser, is in the building, get him talking about their beer program and Beer School that takes place every Tuesday in Gilbert and every Wednesday in Tempe.

The current craft beer trend and passion for local love has led to carefully crafted menus that sometimes not only feature their brews on hand but have highlighted specific ones. This lends to the sense of a beer pairing menu without the pomp and circumstance. World of Beer has created such a menu, and it is exciting and comforting.

They have recently added some new menu items for Fall, created by World of Beer’s executive Chef Mark Adair to enhance the beer experience for guests. The dishes are delightful on their own, but when matched with the right craft beer they become the perfect plate to share with friends.

One new item added to their core menu is their Chimichurri Meatballs. The Latin inspired beef and pork meatballs are topped with fresh garlic and herb sauce and served with an arugula salad. The herbaceous nature of the chimichurri sauce provides a balance to the rich flavor of the meatballs and the arugula’s peppery nature provides the perfect mouthful. Pair the meatballs with a Pale Ale, the best choice being their Joseph James Citra. The tempered citrus ale brings out the fresh flavors of the herbs perfectly.

Another new menu item is their Pesto Grilled Chicken Sandwich; a grilled chicken breast topped with tomato, mozzarella and a fresh arugula and basil pesto on a lightly toasted basil focaccia. The fresh flavors brighten up the grilled chicken and the tomato and mozzarella give the sandwich a caprese air. A pilsner pairs well with this sandwich, but the Pilsner Urquell (translated to “the ancient source”) makes the best choice. The Urquell has a light body and a slightly grassy flavor that does a beautiful dance with the pesto from the sandwich.

Some not-so-standard menu items that you are going to want to try are their German Pretzel, Golden Ale Shrimp, Black & Blue Flatbread and last but certainly not least are the Caramel Apple Rings.
