Well, Butter Me Up and Call Me a Biscuit!

Doesn’t take much to butter me up (pun intended)! Having grown up in the Midwest, butter has its own food group where I come from, and the notion that bread n’ butter should be served with every meal still rings in my brain today.

Creative Butters takes your ordinary “bread n’ butter” up a notch. Made with all natural ingredients, their gourmet butters can spruce up any meal or snack. Jennifer Van Inwegen, owner of Creative Butters, launched her business in 2009 from a booth at a Phoenix Arizona Farmers’ Market. Today she carries a line of four  gourmet flavors that can be found at various locations in Arizona, including AJ’s Fine Foods and Whole Foods in Phoenix and Tucson.

I recently had the pleasure of tasting all four of her signature year-round flavors and they were a definite hit in my house:

She offers two savory options: Garlic Herb and Sun Dried Tomato. The Garlic Herb, made with dill, parsley, chives, lemon and salt was lovely and would be great for use in recipes or, especially, mashed potatoes. Yum!

The Sun Dried Tomato was my personal favorite out of the entire line, and I didn’t expect it to be (just goes to show… it’s always worthwhile to try something new!). Aside from the gorgeous color, its flavor was delicious… and dangerous. I could’ve finished the whole tub in one sitting. Blended with sun dried tomatoes, garlic, basil and a blend of spices, this is perfect just spread on a slice of warm, fresh-baked bread. The website suggests trying it out on a grilled cheese too… genius! There’s a tomato-hater in my house, but this ‘creative butter’ even made a fan out of him.

For a sweeter side, try the Honey Cinnamon (made with Agave nectar, honey and cinnamon) and Orange Pecan (blended with orange, pecans and honey). Both were fabulous morning treats, but don’t be limited to only breakfast! Try adding either of them to vegetables like butternut squash, sweet potatoes and carrots for a sweet dish with dinner. Both flavors are perfect for the current season too… mmmm.

Each of the butters are sold in 6 oz. containers and retail for $6. Check out their list of recipes on their website, each utilizing a Creative Butter: creativebutters.com/recipes.
