Bashas’ Donut Flavor Craze Contest Winner Announced

I have been waiting on pins and needles to see which tiny person would be announced as the winner of Bashas‘ Donut Flavor Craze contest. There were so many great submissions that were then whittled down to 13 tempting finalists. So who is the pint-sized winner of all that donut creating glory??

Congratulations are in order for 9-year-old Fallon who created the Smorealicious donut, a combination of crunchy graham crackers. delicious chocolate and gooey marshmallow. Fallon’s prize winning donut edged out 12 other finalists, and over 400(!!) overall contest submissions. The Smorealicious donut will now appear alongside all of your traditional donut-case favorites all throughout June.

Ten percent of sales from the Smorealicious donut will be donated to The Salvation Army on National Donut Day. The food holiday was established by The Salvation Army in 1938 to raise much-needed funds during the Great Depression. The nonprofit organization continues its tradition of serving donuts and warm meals and offering support services to those who need it most.

Besides having her winning donut featured in Bashas’ bakery departments across the state this month, Fallon has formally been named Bashas’ Official Donut Ambassador, and will receive both a $100 Bashas’ gift card and one dozen donuts every month for a year.

The Bananas Foster Fritter, a fritter with slices of banana and banana pudding covered with caramel, orange zest, cinnamon, brown sugar, and nutmeg, earned 13-year-old Trinity of Phoenix the second-place prize of a $75 Bashas’ gift card, while the Salted Caramel & Pretzel Craze, a chocolate donut smothered in caramel frosting, topped with caramel drizzle, and dusted in salted pretzel bites, earned 8-year-old Rion of Mesa the third-place prize of a $50 Bashas’ gift card. The Cupcake Donut, submitted by 12-year-old Gracie of Phoenix, was named the “People’s Choice” donut from a public vote on Bashas’ Supermarkets’ Facebook page. The remaining finalists will each receive a $25 Bashas’ gift card and one dozen donuts, along with the opportunity to appear on Bashas’ website and social media channels.

I want to congratulate all the kids who submitted a donut recipe whether they made it on the finalist list or not. It took a lot of creativity to create your very own donut flavor and you should be incredibly proud of yourselves. Don’t give up creating in the kitchen. Being able to create meals and dishes of familiar and new flavor combinations is something that you can use throughout your years.
