In my house there are several perspectives on holidays, especially Valentine’s Day. Being the only female in my house of 4, I have come to expect that it’s not going to be that big of a deal. Mister Bites and I are fully aware of our love for one another and my boys certainly have no doubt of our collective love for them. With all that being said, sometimes themed food is just, well. fun.
Local East Valley pizza joint Jimmy & Joe’s Pizzeria reached out to me, requesting that I give their heart-shaped pizza a try. I spoke with one of the family run pizzeria’s owners, Amy Black, and she shared with me that Jimmy & Joe’s often run specials, a new one about every 2 weeks, and that the Valentine’s Day themed one was especially fun. Besides the heart-shaped pizzas being available (upon request) through tomorrow, Amy told me that she painstakingly cut all the pepperonis into heart shapes herself. The result is absolutely darling.
We were treated to their not-so-standard pepperoni pizza for the boys and then I shared the Popeye pizza with Mister Bites. The boys were delighted with their pizza and both boys got a real kick out of the heart-shaped pepperoni – eating more slices than I thought their little bodies could handle!
I shared the Popeye with Mister Bites and we both absolutely loved it. I have to be honest here, and some of you may question my whole life when I say this; I am not a huge fan of pizza. I have had a few pizzas that I have gushed over, but mostly its a “meh” situation. I would most certainly go back for the Popeye. I loved the fresh spinach and basil leaves dotted over the pizza and the crispy garlic that was perfectly placed onto each slice was a fantastic touch. Normally, you don’t find that much of a flavor and texture contrast, but this was explosively delicious, and I ate more pieces than I normally would, as well. he dough was light and pillowy, not overly dense and had a great rich flavor.
In addition to these 2 crowd pleasing pizzas, they have a variety of other signature combinations available; we’ll definitely be back for their Chicken Pesto and Buffalo Chicken pizzas. You can also create your own signature combination with any of their 30 toppings. If you’re in a hurry and on the run, you can stop in for their “Serious Slice” combinations, a hot sandwich and don’t forget that they serve Eegee’s as well!
