Go low-tech and get cooking with your kids!

One of my greatest memories as a child was spending time in the kitchen with my Grandmother. My love for food came from watching her maneuver through every appliance, measuring device and ingredient. While I will never be able to match her enviable skills in the kitchen, I do hope that I can instill that same interest and love within my own children.

With that being said, we are excited to announce a giveaway with Time for Kids’ Kids in the Kitchen Cookbook. The cookbook is complete with tons of recipes of varying difficulty and a multitude of tips and tricks for helping little people work their way through the kitchen. I had a really great time testing out some of the recipes with my own boys.

My 8 year old and I went through and picked out one recipe from each section and set out to make a day’s worth of delicious treats. The book is broken into five major sections:

We spent our day making Cinnamon Streusel Applesauce Muffins, Cheesy Roll-Up Pigs in Blankets, Cheesy Chive Potato Chips, Home-Baked Chicken Fingers and wrapped up the day with Cinnamon-Sugar Apple Cider Crisp.

With each recipe, there are little bits of information in the side-bars. Here, you can learn more about the ingredients you are working with, ideas on what to serve alongside the dish you are making as well as history as it relates to the origin of the main ingredient or the country it comes from.

You’ll find information for the best tools for kids, safety and hygiene tips, fitness tips and goals for good health. My sons and I had a really great time cooking together and the options we picked were nutritionally sound. I think that cooking together at home can not only create some pretty substantial and amazing memories, but eating at home and cooking your own meals from whole foods will create better and more healthful eating habits for your whole family.

You can find Kids in the Kitchen Cookbook at Time for Kids as well as tons of articles about and for kids. The great people at Time for Kids and MyRecipes have offered up a copy of Kids in the Kitchen Cookbook for one lucky reader!
