Show Your Support – In Lights

The sad reality these days is that more and more people you know will be affected by breast cancer. Current statistics state that more than 4000 women each year, just in Arizona, are diagnosed with breast cancer; 226,870 new cases of invasive breast cancer in women in the United States and 1.3 million new diagnoses throughout the world.

While I don’t know about the rest of the country, or the world for that matter, but each of those women in Arizona has a place to go for help at no charge. The Arizona Institute for Breast Health (AIBH), a non-profit organization headquartered in North Scottsdale, focuses solely on providing women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer the option of a second opinion on treatment options completely  free of charge.

The Institute was created on 1998 with the intention of providing education, resources and support to newly diagnosed patients. This is all possible because of a volunteer team of physicians and medical professionals that specialize in breast radiology, breast surgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology, reconstructive surgery and breast pathology. The founder, Dr. Coral Quiet, was recently named as a finalist for the 2012 ATHENA Award for her education to women on their breast cancer treatment options.

The Scottsdale Airpark community has recognized the amazing work that the AIBH does and is joining in its mission to help the women of Arizona with the first ever Breast of Scottsdale which will prove to be the PINKEST party Scottsdale has ever seen!

On Wednesday, September 12, 2012, Sapporo Scottsdale, in partnership with Belvedere Vodka, will be hosting this amazing event from 6pm-close. The entire community is invited to take part in the celebration which will include delightful pink-themed food and drinks, great music, interactive photography courtesy of Clique Photo Station and several other surprises.

Pink attire is preferred and make sure to get creative since prizes will be awarded to the most creative, zany and all-out fabulous pink costumes, as well as casual wear. The cost of admission will be a simple $25 online donation that will be used to sponsor an AIBH ‘Pink Light’ which will honor a loved one of the guest’s choosing. What a wonderful way to enjoy a great event as well as honoring someone close to you. These lights will be gathered and used to illuminate the Marshall Way Bridge in Scottsdale starting on October 4th and will remain through the entirety of Breast Cancer Awareness month as a beautifully visual way to honor all of those we love who have been impacted by the disease. To register, please visit aibh.org.

If you are not able to attend the event but would like to get involved, you can go to Pink Light District right now and sponsor a Pink Light in honor or in memory of a loved one touched by cancer. A Pink Light may be given to anyone touched by breast cancer in any way which is each and every one of us.

Sponsor a Pink Light:

In addition to the light, each honoree who is gifted a light will receive a Pink Light Tribute Card, and their name will be placed in the 2012 Pink Light Honor Album on the AIBH website. There is no limit to the number of lights one can buy to recognize and honor those in their lives. Sponsorships of multiple lights and other donation opportunities are also available.

“This year, we are extremely honored to have Dr. William Leighton as our 2012 Pink Light District Premier Sponsor,” said AIBH executive director Christine Fenwick, a 17-year breast cancer survivor. In addition to Dr. Leighton, other valuable corporate sponsors include Yeager North, Iron Medical Systems, Olive & Ivy, Anasazi Internal Medicine, HMA Public Relations, Sapporo Scottsdale, Leighton & Abdo Attorneys at Law, Fiesta Furnishings and Arizona Breast Cancer Specialists, which is led by AIBH co-founder Dr. Quiet. She also serves as the organizations volunteer medical director.
