Don & Charlie’s offers timeless ice cream sundae for only 99 cents through 8/8

The heat of the summer has us all screaming for ice cream and cool treats – save some cash and head to Don & Charlie’s for your super cold, sweet fix as they are offering up one of their most beloved menu items, the Gold Brick Sundae, for only $0.99 through August 8th.

Having been in the business for over 31 years, the Gold Brick Sundae has been on their menu since the very beginning and continues to be a hit. The timeless sundae dates back to the 1930s when Elmer’s Candy Company shared its top selling candy bar as an ice cream sundae topping. The candy company is still in business today and continues to make the Gold Brick.

What’s in it? Well, the recipe is a well-guarded secret, but we can tell you that it’s made with three kinds of chocolate and pecans with a hint of malt. The candy is melted to top the sundae but quickly hardens on the ice cream.

The Gold Brick can be difficult to find outside of the South or Southeast of the United States, but Don Carson, the ‘Don’ of Don & Charlie’s, had to have it in the restaurant when he first happened upon the sundae in the 1970s on a trip to Florida. Now, Valley dwellers can enjoy the treat at their leisure.

Be sure to get your taste of the sundae while it’s priced at $0.99 through August 8th in celebration of National Ice Cream Month! For more info about the restaurant, visit donandcharlies.com.
