Saturday: “Sneaky Diablo” Burger Eating Challenge at Bueno Burger

The newly opened Bueno Burger Mex American Grill in Scottsdale claims to have created the hottest, spiciest burger in Arizona and they plan to prove it this Saturday, December 17th at their Sneaky Diablo Burger Challenge.

Two local food-enthusiasts and buddies of ours, Rodney Hartwig (Adventures in Cuisine) and Tony Morales (Desert Smoke BBQ), conquered the burger last week on Sonoran Living to introduce the new restaurant and raise awareness to cure childhood cancer. Owner of Bueno Burger, Gary Shaw, speaks about the cause they’ve chosen to support, “My wife and I believe strongly in supporting local charities and as the father of five young children, finding a cure to childhood cancer is incredibly close to our hearts. This contest is our way of taking action.”

About the burger: The Sneaky Diablo Burger is two juicy, mesquite-grilled ground beef patties topped with habanero peppers, ghost chili peppers, onion, pickled jalapenos, black-pepper bacon and smothered with American cheese. The beef is seasoned with a secret spice blend “sure to burn the pants off even the toughest competitor.” What’s impressive is that a young East Valley Institute of Technology student James Atkins, a cook at Bueno Burger Scottsdale, created the burger.

“This burger is beyond hot. I tip my hat to the spice lovers that take this challenge head on,” said Gary Shaw.

The challenge will take place on December 17th from 1pm-3pm where participants will have to finish every bite within 30 minutes and keep their cool for at least 5 minutes after finishing with no food or drink to quench the heat.

Eager participants will pay a charity donation/entry fee of $15 that includes the burger and a drink. Register for the competition by emailing their name to vshaw@buenoburgeraz.com or by calling 602-821-6143.

In more efforts to raise funds to support this cause, $3 from each $7.95 Sneaky Diablo Burger purchase during the month of December will be donated to local charities that support a cure for childhood cancer.
