In my house, no one needs to talk me into a tasty taco or chilled margarita, and living in Arizona makes it easy to get both whenever the mood strikes you. If you want a side of celebration with your tacos and tequila, Cinco de Mayo is right around the corner. Luckily for you we’ve got your 2017 Cinco De Mayo Dining Guide!
But first, need a quick refresher on what Cinco de Mayo is all about?
Cinco de Mayo is a Mexican celebration, rich in history and pride. This holiday honors the Mexican Army’s spectacular victory over the French that took place on May 5, 1862. The Mexican Army was vastly outnumbered by the French, who had not lost a battle in over fifty years!
In hopes of holding back the French’s progression toward Mexico City, General Ignacio Zaragoza and his soldiers stormed the French Army in the humble settlement of Puebla. This strike resulted in the extraordinary victory for the Mexican Army. On September 16, 1862, President Juarez announced that the day of the Battle of Puebla would be made an annual holiday. Hence, Cinco de Mayo evolved into a popular holiday in Mexico and in areas where there is a substantial Mexican populace.
