Breast Cancer Awareness Month at Fractured Prune

As I am sure that you all know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. What you may not know is that I have had, to date, three cases of breast cancer in my family, all of which resulted in the loss of amazing women. And that’s just in my family. I have countless friends, former co-workers and loved ones that have been ravaged by the disease. As a former Benefits Coordinator, I had the unfortunate position of being the point person that coordinated leaves for employees that were diagnosed with this devastating disease. I shed many tears while talking these women through their feelings and status, all instances took me back to my family members, reliving the very moment that I received the call. This series is dedicated to those three beautiful women (you can see pictures of them below.)

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an annual international campaign, organized by major breast cancer charities, to increase awareness as well as to raise funds for essential research. The campaign also serves as a reminder to be self-aware, teaching the tools and techniques for early detection. As someone who has experienced the pain and suffering of this disease, by losing some of the most influential and precious women in my life, I want to be a champion for the cause all throughout the month of October, providing you with tips on where you can visit to help the cause.

Fractured Prune Breast Cancer Awareness Special

Today, I want you to know about what Fractured Prune is doing this month. From now through October 31st, when you include a Breast Cancer Awareness doughnut in your dozen doughnut purchase, Fractured Prune will donate 5% of the total purchase price to breast cancer research. Their special Breast Cancer Awareness doughnut is made up of a traditional cake doughnut with a honey glaze and topped with pink ribbon sprinkles. The special promotional doughnut is available at all eight Fractured Prune locations in Arizona.

This is not the first charity that Fractured Prune has supported since opening in 2005. Owners Mark and Karen Prygocki have supported ASU Gammage, Arizona State’s self-sustaining and world-class performing arts center that brings Broadway shows to local residents. The couple and Fractured Prune also support Southwest Autism Research & Resource Center (SARRC), where they employ individuals who have autism to work in their stores.

**Bonus fact: I used to work for Mark Prygocki at Medics in another life. Funny how life leads us away from one another and then back again!
