Get Milling Mesquite With Monika at The Market

There is no question that we have a deep and far-reaching love for Jennifer Russo and The Market Restaurant + Bar by Jennifer’s. The regular menu, grab-and-go items, and wine dinners are always top notch. What you may not know is that The Market often features special dinners featuring local purveyors and experts. One such dinner is coming up on August 20th with Monika Woolsey of Hip Veggies. The special event, Milling Mesquite with Monika will feature two courses, an adult beverage as well as a special milled mesquite flour class.

Let’s break it down!

What’s on the Menu for the Milling Mesquite with Monika?

To start, guests will have the option of a glass of house wine, local beer or a prickly pear cocktail.

Since the event is taking place at 10:30am, you’ll be invited to enjoy a Roasted Mesquite “Coffee” along with Chicken and Waffles. The waffles will be made with mesquite flour and then topped with Mesquite Pecan Chicken and then drizzled with a prickly pear fruit syrup.

There is no sweeter way to wrap up a great brunch than with dessert. Here you will enjoy Cheesecake made from Crow’s Dairy goat cheese, honey mesquite, Manzanita berry dust and cajeta de cabra.

What kind of instruction will I receive at Milling Mesquite with Monika?

Monika from Hip Veggies will bring in samples of beans that grow locally and can be milled into flour. She is planning to share the history of this food and how Native Americans depended on it in their diets. She’ll also touch on the flavor profile of mesquite, cooking tips as well as the healthy benefits. Monika will instruct guests on how to identify the right trees along with how to harvest and mill the beans. Each participant will receive a half pound of locally harvested and milled mesquite flour that she is currently working on gathering and processing.

How do I register for this special event?

Early registration ends on August 13th. If you register by then, the event will cost you $30 per person, which includes the breakfast and the half pound of milled mesquite flour, not including tax or gratuity. If you want to register for the class only by the 13th, that will cost only $7.
