How to Get Kids to Eat Healthy: Put Them in Charge

How to get kids to eat healthy? It’s an age-old question, and while it may be easier to pop some dinosaur shaped nugget type chicken item in the microwave, if you wouldn’t eat it why are you serving it to your kids?

Don’t get me wrong, I have been guilty of food-focused travesties when it comes to my own children. Every time my husband goes out of town for business the boys and I make a special trip to the grocery store to pick up cereal that Daddy would never buy and some fun snacks to make the separation a little easier, and fun to be honest. Getting your kids to eat healthy at home is likely a lot easier than when dining out. There are less distractions and you have control over everything coming in, as opposed to all of the enticing items on any given menu. You can tell me if that’s true because we don’t go out as a family for dinner very often because of the highly picky nature of my boys. No one wants to argue over what they are going to order and then harumph all over the place because they ate two bites and decided that it wasn’t any good.

There may be some changes coming soon in the dining-out-with-my-picky-kids front, though, due to the announcement of the new Kids Menu at MAD Greens. MAD Greens is all about making sure that we all eat a little bit more healthfully, but their latest focus is definitely on the kids. The announcement of Kids’ Super Box and Awesome Box has us really excited to test them out on our little people. The boxes are inspired bu traditional Japanese bento boxes, separating all meal components into their own adorable sections.

What exactly comes in these boxes?

Kids are put in charge of their meal combinations by being able to customize their fruit and vegetable selections. Having all of the meal components separated, you’ll be pleasing those pint size eaters that simply cannot have their foods touching. I know a few grown ups that would be tickled with this set up as well.

What could be sweeter and more fulfilling than getting your kids to try something new and healthy? The MAD Greens located at 7th Avenue and McDowell Road will be hosting a special tasting event for local children from the nearby Big Brothers Big Sisters organization. These special kids will be abe invited to try their new menu and build their own boxes.

“At MAD Greens we know that healthy eating habits start at an early age, ” says MAD Greens Co-founder and Chief Strategy Officer, Marley Hodgson. “We created our new box meals to help make it easier and tastier for all kids – even the pickiest eaters – to get those fruits and veggies that are building blocks to better nutrition.”

Sweeten the deal and try out the new boxes, one free with one paid adult meal, from April 12th through May 31st for children 12 and under. NO real commitment and when it works out and the kids start asking when you can go back to make another box; priceless!

The new Kids Super Box and Kids Awesome Boxes are available now at all five Valley MAD Greens locations.
