Roll on into Biketoberfest!

October brings about the celebration of cooler temperatures and more time spent outdoors. October also brings on festival season,  more specifically a celebration of beer and brats, a la Oktoberfest. The Handlebar Tempe is announcing the first ever Biketoberfest.

The event is scheduled to take place beginning at 1 pm on September 27th and run all the way through 2 am the following morning. Expect to find beer tents, beer trucks, bratwurst and bike races as well as bicycle donations to charities. The event will be held at the Centerpoint courtyard along 7th street which is just behind the famed craft beer bar; The Handlebar Tempe.

Attendees are encouraged to RSVP in advance for complimentary tickets and to register for specific bike races. The charity bike races will pit adults riding child-sized bicycles around a pre-determined course in the name of fun and fundraising. Bike races include Tempe Mayor Mark Mitchell versus Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton, as well as teams from local bars competing against other bars and restaurants, a “monster mini” kids-sized bike race and awards for “best in show”.

Some additional fun activities that will take place are the “Dunk-a-Cop” tank, Germanic-themed feats of strength such as a stein holding competition and a sausage eating contest. You will also be able to enjoy live music by local DJs and German bands. Meander through a Teutonic fantasyland of beer trucks, tents and a beer-garden style area for drinking, eating and just having a great time!

The Phoenix area bike and beer communities have rallied behind the event with sponsorship and donations coming from premier local breweries, suppliers and distributors including Alliance Beverage Distributing Company, Bike Cellar, Crescent Crown Distributing, Hensley Beverage Company, Red Bull Energy Drink and Southern Wine & Spirits. Food and beverage options will be managed to be The Handlebar Tempe’s staff as well local vendors, and an impressive cadre of imported, local and craft beer options will be available for purchase including signature specialty brews from Bell’s Brewery, Deschutes Brewery, Four Peaks Brewing Company, New Belgium Brewery, Odell Brewing Company and Sierra Nevada Brewing Company, as well as Schreiner’s sausages and other food pairings.

Tempe is already known locally for its stellar beer and bike communities,” states Julian Wright, The Handlebar Tempe’s owner and principal of Fork & Dagger Bar and Restaurant Development Company. “and this year’s inaugural Biketoberfest event will kick off the fall bike and beer festival season in style with a signature event that squarely puts downtown Tempe on the map as the place to come for craft beer, food, and fun; all in the name of charity.”

Proceeds from the event will benefit both the Navy League of Arizona and St. Vincent de Paul charities.

Be sure to RSVP for the event as well as register your group for the bike races that are sure to be as fun to watch as they will be to participate in!
