We’ve got a huge craving for The Taste

What do you get when you mash up the ideas behind MasterChef and The Voice? The latest, and perhaps most innovative, cooking competition – The Taste.

With the sultry Nigella Lawson, bawdy Anthony Bourdain, pop-Up king Ludo Lefebvre and the ridiculously adorable (and talented) Brian Malarkey heading up the blind tastings, first as judges and then as mentors, this show is sure to be entertaining, funny and intense.

Home cooks and professional chefs will vie for one of four spots on one of the four mentors’ teams. The first step is the blind test. Competitors will be tasked with creating a one spoon bite. The judges will not see the person that created the bite and will base all of their decisions on that one taste. No visual; no story – just the aspects of that one single bite. That’s a lot of pressure on the competitors!

Once the 16 final contestants have been chosen, they will be assigned to a mentor who will guide them through a variety of culinary challenges, with the final products again being judged blindly. One spoon could make or break a potential culinary superstar.

I am a huge fan of all cooking shows and especially cooking competitions and am really excited for the unique premise of this show as well as being able to root on Brian Malarkey’s team after having had the pleasure of meeting him at his swanky Scottsdale spot, Searsucker. Make sure to tune into The Taste tonight at 8pm on ABC and set your DVRs to make sure you don’t miss an episode!
