14-Cup Food Processor from Magimix by Robot Coupe

Fall cooking is in full swing and in my kitchen around this time of year, there’s one appliance that gets a little (or a lot) more attention than all the others — my food processor. Though I use it year-round for many, many dishes, it really gets some extra love during the holiday season. From chopping to pureeing and blending to dough-making, I almost can’t imagine life without a food processor… or wouldn’t want to, at least.

I recently acquired a new one for my kitchen collection, the 4200XL 14-Cup Food Processor from Magimix by Robot Coupe available exclusively at Williams-Sonoma. One of our lucky readers will win the same model for themselves!

If you aren’t familiar with the Magimix brand, they are French makers of high-quality kitchen electrics and are the inventors of the very first food processor available to domestic cooks (invented over 40 years ago, so they have quite the history). They also manufacture their own motors. The kitchen machines are handmade in Burgundy, France (fancy pants) and are known for lasting a lifetime. To back up that claim, as of recently they now offer a 30 year warranty on food processor motors so you can be assured your investment will continue to pay off for years and years of cooking.

My family eats at home nearly every night of the week and only from-scratch meals. Most days I don’t have much time for prep and those days are when this food processor saves my life. Slicing onions only takes a few seconds (and a lot less tears) and grating cheese is done in an instant. I don’t know about you, but less time and energy spent just makes my meals taste… better. If I can save time in the kitchen without cutting corners, I’m all for it.

I tested the 14-Cup model in Chrome (which is exactly the same model our winner will receive, but they also offer 12-cup and 16-cup models if you’re shopping around) and it looked huge when I first tore open the box.

Though it can definitely handle big jobs, inside the largest bowl rests two smaller bowls for more modest tasks. I thought the trio of bowls was incredibly handy when I needed the food processor for multiple uses during the same meal. Not having to stop and wash out the bowl before its second use saved lots of time and grief.

The largest bowl (aka the main bowl) is excellent for slicing and grating – I loved grating whole blocks of cheese in the blink of an eye and quickly slicing up a bag of apples for an autumn pi. The main bowl also works well for my favorite pie dough recipe or chopping fresh meat. The middle bowl (aka the 12-cup midi bowl) is best used for smaller slicing and grating efforts and the smallest bowl, the 6-cup ‘mini’, is ideal for tiny chopping jobs (like nuts or single portions of tomatoes or veggies for the kiddos), mincing herbs, or making sauces or pesto.

There are only three buttons to master (sounds easy, right?): On, Off, and Pulse. Couldn’t be simpler!

Along with the food processor, you’ll get a collection of attachments neatly organized in a store box that I guarantee will make your life easier:

Includes: the metal blade, dough blade, egg whisk, 2 grating discs, 2 slicing discs, BlenderMix attachment (make your smoothies right in the processor… no need for a blender!), extension and spatula.

And, it also comes with a spiral notebook including the instruction manual and tons of recipes from main dishes, seafood, breads and desserts. If you’re more of a visual learner, my food processor also came with an instructional DVD that also includes recipes. Perhaps they’ve thought of everything!

My favorite features of the machine are definitely the trio of bowls which makes it incredibly easy to use, and eliminates the need of having a smaller food processor just for sauces and mincing. I also loved that the bowl never leaked. My previous processor, a high-end brand, would always leak no matter what I did and I never understood why. No mess with this one!

The chrome model looks like a food processor you might find in a professional kitchen. It’s my choice of color and would look lovely on any countertop, but if you’d rather have a white appliance, they make that option too.

Just in time for Thanksgiving, check out Magimix’s recipe for Green Pea Puree (a simple and inexpensive French countryside recipe that pairs well with sweet potatoes and looks lovely on the plate) and Gratin Dauphinois (a French side dish that boasts comforting flavors and is great leftover).

Check out their super-rad Vision Toaster, too (the world’s first see-through toaster)… wouldn’t that look cool in my kitchen? Thought so.

Purchase your own Magimix kitchen appliances at Williams-Sonoma through their online store or retail location near you.

One lucky reader will win the 4200XL 14-Cup Food Processor in Chrome from Magimix by Robot Coupe. A $399.95 value!
