New Restaurant Open at Scottsdale Quarter: Dominick’s Steakhouse

There’s a new restaurant open at Scottsdale Quarter: Dominick’s Steakhouse. From start to finish, our night at Dominick’s has to be one of the best overall experiences since I started on this journey. The beautiful decor, great friends, amazing food and stellar service…I cannot imagine what could have made the night better. Really.

We arrived at Dominick’s around 9pm and were warmly welcomed at the reception area. We had a quick pit-stop in the bar and then were escorted up to our table, overlooking the opulent bar. I was fascinated with the floor, so much so that I told Amy she absolutely had to get a picture of it, just gorgeous. The bottle display was inspiring. No expense was spared in the decor here – cashmere on the ceiling and leather on the walls. The opulent attention to detail makes for a rich, warm space that makes you feel that you have traveled in time, back to the 50’s when going out was an event that you dressed up for and took your time. The wait staff helped perpetuate that idea with their suit coats and readiness to take their time, explaining the menu or making suggestions. Our waitress, Wendy, felt more like a friend by the end of the night. No one at our table had an empty glass or an unanswered question. Make sure you ask for her when you head in.

The food?  Bountiful. While we ordered the Seafood Platter and the Calamari, I pretty much left the seafood platter to Amy and our dinner companion, Melissa, and tried my hardest to hoard the calamari – one of my very favorite things. They were perfectly fried, just the right amount of breading. They were served with two sauces: their house-made cocktail sauce and a creamy mustard (divine).

Amy’s comments of the Seafood Platter:  The Seafood Platter was such a show at our table… absolutely magnificent. Lobster, shrimp, crab… everything you could ask for. The platter was accompanied with four dipping options: housemade cocktail sauce, drawn butter, atomic horseradish and creamy mustard. We could have made a meal out of the Calamari, Seafood Platter and bread basket alone (but, of course, we didn’t stop there!). The restaurant’s bread basket held its own uniqueness – Onion Focaccia, Breadsticks and Italian Fig Roll served with fig jam and butter. The fig jam was lovely and a hit among us girls.

I would have been thrilled to have only savored the appetizer and went home happy. But, there was more…much, much more.

For my salad course, I ordered the Spinach Salad with Warm Bacon Dressing ($6.95).  It was nice and light served with the dressing on the side. Considering what was coming, this was the perfect salad course for me.

Amy opted for the Burrata with Roasted Red Peppers ($12.95), and our guest Melissa chose the Beefsteak Tomato & Vidalia Onion ($6.95).

Amy’s comments on the Burrata: I have a well-known love affair with Burrata and anytime I spot it on a menu, it ends up at my table. The Burrata is listed under Appetizers on the menu, but our server Wendy suggested it as a salad course. Though the plate was large enough for sharing, I kept most of it for myself. The roasted sweet red peppers were served warm and were the perfect accessory for the creamy burrata. I tasted each of the salad courses our table ordered, and while all were lovely, I was most proud of my choice. This will definitely be a re-order for me on my next visit to Dominick’s!

We collectively ordered a variety of side dishes to complement the varied main courses we had chosen. The Creamed Sweet Corn ($8.95) and the Gnocchi with Lobster Alfredo ($24.95) were my absolute favorites. The creamed corn brought back childhood memories of family reunions and that warm feeling of a hug from your favorite Aunt. The gnocchi was light and a perfect pairing with the lobster alfredo.  I found out later that there was a bit of a ‘contest’ when deciding upon the recipe they would use for the gnocchi. Every Italian family has an arsenal of long standing family recipes and gnocchi is no doubt among them. The restaurateurs got together and tested out each respective family’s recipe to choose the best one to be on the menu. While I was not privy to the other options, I was very pleased with their selection!

My entree was ridiculous. Wendy had told us that the chef had only prepared six cuts of the Prime Rib ($47.95) at the start of the evening and I was one of the very lucky 6. When asked how I would like the cut prepared, I told Wendy that I would love to have it prepared however the Chef would like it to be served. Best choice ever! The size of my Prime Rib almost scared me. After we had been wined and dined, the massiveness of my entree was pretty intimidating, but I did my best. I only made it through about 5 bites – but they were the sweetest most delectable bites of the evening. You know how people say that a great cut of meat melts in your mouth? Well, this melted before it even hit my lips. By far, the best cut of Prime Rib I have ever had. I was actually a little depressed that I wasn’t able to make even a dent in it, even though I tried my hardest.

Amy chose the Bone-in Filet ($52.95). Her comments: My filet was massive, though still small in comparison with Taryn’s Prime Rib! Like her, I only made it through a few bites, but I enjoyed it time and time again with the overwhelming amount of leftovers I took home that night. The filet was seasoned perfectly… it needed no accompaniment.

Not one of us could even fathom dessert at this point, but Wendy convinced us to order and take it home. We all opted for the Flourless Chocolate Cake ($8.95). I shared some the next morning (best mom ever) with my kids and it was a HUGE hit… incredibly rich and sweet.

If you are looking for a special occasion spot, somewhere to impress out of town business clients or a place to revisit the classy and elegant vibe of times gone by, Dominick’s will not disappoint.
