Stingray Sushi Opens Its Doors at Scottsdale Quarter

Stingray Sushi officially opened the doors to its third location in Scottsdale Quarter on June 29th adding another North Phoenix restaurant option for sushi-lovers. The sleek and sexy décor complete with dark woods and bright splashes of orange welcomes in Scottsdale Quarter patrons.  We stopped by just before the opening for a few bites and to check out the new space.

Our meal swiftly began with complimentary Edamame and Miso Soup:

Miso Soup

For an appetizer, we chose the Shrimp Sumai (Shrimp Dumplings & Soy Mustard Sauce | $8). Four dumplings arrived and they didn’t last long – delicious! The sauce accompanying the dumplings was surprisingly sweet. We could have handled a few more orders of these.

Other favorites that made its way to our table:

The Mango Tango (Chunks of Big Eye Tuna, Scallions, Mango, Masago and Petite Greens with Spicy Tuna Poke Sauce | $13) was my personal favorite of the evening and full of flavor. The spicy tuna poke sauce was just that… spicy… but sweetened up a bit by the generous bites of mango found in the dish. Overall, a completely refreshing dish and it was a great start of what was to come.

Next, we tried the Crispy Fish Roll ($10)- a little different from your standard ‘sushi roll’ options as the roll includes Beer-Battered Cod, Iceberg Lettuce, Avocado and Crab Mix.  A ‘Japanese tartar sauce’ comes on the side for dunking, although the sauce wasn’t much different from traditional tartar sauce, in my opinion.

The monstrous Godzilla Roll ($17) appeared later packed full of goodness including Shrimp Tempura, Soft Shell Crab, Crab Mix, Spicy Tuna, Cucumber, Avocado, and wrapped in Green Soy Paper served over a drizzle of sweet eel sauce.

Though our very favorite roll of the evening was the Cabo Blanco Roll ($12). Salmon, Spicy Crab Mix, Avocado and Cucumbers, rolled, then topped with Halibut, Creamy Ponzu sauce and Pico de Gallo. So much flavor in one bite!

Taryn ordered out the Yellowtail Nigiri ($5.25) – fresh and delicate.

We rounded up our meal with dessert: Tempura Ice Cream as recommended by our server. She chose Green Tea Ice Cream for us accompanied by white chocolate, dark chocolate and raspberry dipping sauce. A nice sweet treat to end an indulgent meal!
