Travel | 8th Annual San Diego OysterFest

With school out, are you starting to think of getting out of town? We sure are! With San Diego only a short drive away, the 8th Annual San Diego OysterFest, taking place June 9th and 10th, is calling our name, for all sorts of reasons!

6 Reasons to Check Out the 8th Annual San Diego OysterFest

Reason 1

Oysters! You’ll find oysters from British Columbia as well as mollusks from the West Coast and Mexico. No need to be shellfish, there will be plenty for everyone!

Reason 2

In addition to all the fresh oysters that will be on hand, a ton of favored San Diego chefs and restaurants will be in attendance offering up tastes. There will also be lots of beer, wine, spirits and cocktails served up throughout the event.

Reason 3

What goes better with oysters and chilled beverages than music? Over the course of the two-day event, you’ll get to hear from up and coming artists and entertainers. Friday will feature The Verigolds, The Shelters, Dance Yourself Clean, Rocket From the Crypt and the evening will end with Ghostland Observatory. On Saturday you can expect performances from Janelle Phillips, Josh Heinrichs, Vokab Kompany, Dam Funk, Magic! and headliner Matisyahu.

Reason 4

I have heard that our ultimate chef crush, Gordon Ramsay, may be making an appearance. Turns out he will be in town filming his new show, The F Word.

Reason 5

Let’s say it’s your first time trying out an oyster, you can record the momentous occasion in the “My First Oyster Booth.” You’ll also be able to learn how to shuck oysters without losing any fingers at the Oyster Shucking Exhibit. You can also be a part of the World Record Oyster Sucking attempt along with the event’s annual “Shuck and Suck” contest.

Reason 6

Two days! Two days of great food, entertainment and weather.

Tickets for the 21+ event are currently $35, but if you use promo code SDVILLE, you can save $5 on either day. Promo code SDVILLEFRIDAY will get you $10 off your Friday ticket. Food and beverage are not included in the cost of the ticket. The event is close to being sold out, so if you want in, you need to get your tickets soon!

“What could be better than fresh succulent oysters, a cold beer and great live music in the most beautiful San Diego waterside setting?!” asked OysterFest producer Myles O’Reilly. “I can’t think of anything.”

San Diego is just a short road trip away and the almost-always-perfect weather alone is a great reason to make a visit. The 8th Annual San Diego OysterFest definitely sweetens the deal. Remember to get your tickets before they sell out and get to shuckin’!
