After all the excitement of the 2nd Annual Downtown Tempe Brunch Crawl, its fair to say that we have brunch on the brain! So why not a list with a twist? One of the best parts of a weekend brunch is the morning cocktail selection. This begs the question:
For a unique diversified take on brunching, DeSoto Central Market, a chic artisanal food hall in Downtown Phoenix, is the place to be. The DCM Bar serves delicious mimosas either by the glass($4 each)or by the pitcher ($18). For the adventurous day drinker, “The Kraken” Bloody Mary ($18) combines Sobieski Vodka, House Bloody Mary Mix, and lemon, and is topped with a beef slider, bacon, pickled veggies, and even a brownie. These boozy brunch cocktails make great companions to the delicious brunch items available at DeSoto Central Market. Tea & Toast lives up to their name with several delectable Noble Bread toast options including one with smashed avocado, hard-boiled egg and sel gris ($4). The in-house restaurant serving southern-style fare, the larder + the delta, offers a Shrimp n’ Grits ($14) dish with smoked andouille sausage, Kauai shrimp and crystal hot sauce, for those who enjoy a spicier breakfast. The DCM Bar serves brunch drinks Saturdays and Sundays from 9am to 4pm, Tea & Toast serves brunch Saturdays and Sundays from 10am to 3pm, and the larder + the delta serves brunch Saturdays and Sundays from 10am to 4pm.
DeSoto Central Market is closed on Mondays during the summer, and open Tuesday to Wednesday from 7am to 10pm, Thursday to Friday from 7am to midnight, Saturday from 8am to midnight, and Sunday from 8am to 9pm.
Looking for booze while you brunch? The Hash Kitchen located in Scottsdale is prized for its “DIY” Bloody Mary bar with flavor infused vodkas (think cilantro, lime, bacon and jalapeno) and its 50 “over-the-top” fun toppings. Toppings include grilled cheese sandwiches, pepperoni sticks, mozzarella sticks, king crab and oysters. The Build Your Own Bloody Mary is $10, no matter how many toppings you pile on. For a sweet breakfast treat, try the Breakfast popsicles ($6) fruity pebbles, Greek yogurt, milk and bananas, frozen into a popsicle or indulge in the Oreo Cookie Pancakes ($10), chocolate and caramel pancakes, layered with Oreo cream, crushed Oreo’s and chocolate sauce. Try the Lump Crab & Sweet Potato Hash ($15) sweet potato hash, lump crab, old bay aioli and hummus topped with two eggs and a warm buttermilk biscuit on the side.

The Lodge Sasquatch Kitchen in Downtown Tempe and ASU land serves brunch every Saturday and Sunday, from 11 am to 2 pm. Starting at 11 am, The Lodge offers a full brunch menu and with every brunch order, guests can add bottomless mimosas for $10 and five cent re-fills. To “brunch so hard,” The Lodge Sasquatch Kitchen’s Executive Chef Aaron May has Sasquatch inspired brunch dishes like the Brunch Burger ($12), served open faced on Texas toast with cheddar cheese, bacon, sunny side up egg, and smothered in cheese sauce and The Elvis ($8) which is a pan fried Texas toast with bacon, peanut butter, and bananas.

Aside from the bacon, one of the best things about brunch is the booze. Social Tap Eatery makes day drinking even more fun with their “Remedy” cocktail menu. Whether you opt for a Scottsdale Sunrise ($8) made with muddled grapefruit, Deep Eddy Grapefruit vodka, grapefruit Pellegrino and champagne, or a Coco Fresa ($10) made with Three Olives Coconut vodka press, fresh strawberry, lemon and a splash of agave nectar, there’s a perfect cocktail to accompany any dish on the Mexican-American fusion menu. Some brunch favorites include: the Breakfast Burger ($14.50), Chicken & Waffles ($12)and Huevos Rancheros ($11). Brunch is served every Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 2pm.
