Seven grapes, baby: 7 Daughters super red blend

Some would say that if you’ve got 7 daughters, you deserve a glass of wine!  But when it comes to blending a lot of grapes, 7 daughters takes on an entirely new meaning.  How about this:  “A casual wine from all over the place.”
Nope, for this one, it’s simply “Seven Daughters”, with no vintage listed.  As for the grapes?

Check this out from one of their batches:

  1. Merlot (41%)
  2. Cabernet Franc (23%)
  3. Syrah (14%)
  4. Zinfandel (13%)
  5. Cabernet Sauvignon (7%)
  6. Alicante Bouschet (1%)
  7. Carignane (1%)

Add up to 100%?  You do the math.

At Phoenix area Target stores’ sale price of under $15, this is surely a wine for fun.  In fact, it really tastes like the Zinfandel won out, with its pronounced bouquet of toasty cherries, violet, and something else like rhubarb, it’s got Zin written all over it.  The body doesn’t have a lot of tannin structure, but white pepper really comes through, also Zinnish.

It’s very easy to drink and has a distinctly European 13.5% alcohol level.  But you’ll never see this blend coming from France or Italy.  It’s strictly American from the 7 Daughters Winery.  And it looks like they really like to blend up their stuff from all over California.

As for food pairing, start with Sloppy Joes with plenty of yellow mustard on the side or a big grill of burgers and weenies.  This just about sums it up for a wine like this that is surely to be the life of the party, especially if you decide to banter over what life would be like with 7 daughters running about!

Enjoy, and see if you can pick out the Cabernet Sauvignon, she certainly seems a bit shy.
