Quiches & Pies Review: A French Bakery Worth Finding in Chandler

Posted on: September 10th, 2026 by Taryn Jeffries No Comments

I first met Máiréad and Fabrice Buschtetz when I interviewed them at Cuisine & Wine Bistro. Over the years, I have frequented their restaurants and written about their work for PhoenixBites and local magazines. Every time I’ve crossed paths with them, they’ve been exactly the same: warm, kind and completely genuine.

Then, in October 2025, I stopped into Quiches & Pies Quiches & Pies on a whim. Neither Máiréad nor Fabrice was there, the visit wasn’t hosted, and I paid the full $53.83 bill myself.

The short version

Quiches & Pies Chandler serves handcrafted French pastries, coffee, pies and take-home quiches near Alma School and Ray roads.

If you already know the food at Cuisine & Wine Bistro, you’ll recognize the same attention to detail here — just in a much more casual bakery setting. The pastries were delicate without being overly sweet, and the bacon and blue cheese quiche had both flavors in every bite.

This was the kind of spontaneous purchase that makes you glad you stopped.

What I ordered

My $53.83 haul included:

  • Peach Danish
  • Pistachio pastry
  • Cinnamon pastry
  • Custard-topped pastry
  • Almond croissant
  • Bacon and blue cheese quiche

The pastry box looked like restraint had never entered the conversation. Each item offered something different, from fruit and custard to nuts, spice and crisp laminated layers.

The pastries

French pastries sometimes look better than they taste. These delivered on both.

Nothing in the box was aggressively sweet, which I appreciated. I could actually taste the fruit, nuts and pastry instead of just sugar. Nothing caused the immediate feeling that you had made a terrible dental decision.

The peach Danish was probably the prettiest of the bunch, with flaky pastry, peach and custard in the same bite. The pistachio pastry had a deeper nutty flavor, while the cinnamon one was warm and spiced without being buried in icing. The custard-topped pastry was richer, but still not overly sweet.

The almond croissant arrived dusted with powdered sugar and covered with sliced almonds. It felt substantial without becoming heavy or cloying.

Rather than competing to be the sweetest item in the box, each pastry let its primary flavors come through.

The bacon and blue cheese quiche at Quiches & Pies

The bacon and blue cheese quiche was the savory counterpoint to all those pastries.

Quiche fillings are not always evenly distributed. One bite gets everything, and the next tastes like plain egg. This one had bacon and blue cheese flavor throughout.

The blue cheese was definitely there, but it never bulldozed the rest of the quiche. The bacon added salt and smokiness, and the filling stayed soft and custardy.”

And the crust held its own. It didn’t get soggy, but it also wasn’t so thick that I forgot there was filling inside.

The quiche came boxed with handwritten reheating instructions, a small detail that helped ensure it reached the table the way the kitchen intended.

The family behind this Chandler French bakery

Quiches & Pies may be the newest family project, but food has been the Buschtetz family business for decades.

Máiréad and Fabrice opened their first restaurant near Paris in 1988. Fabrice has been making quiche since he attended culinary school as a teenager. After moving to the United States, the family eventually opened Cuisine & Wine Bistro in Chandler and built a loyal following around Fabrice’s French cooking.

Quiches & Pies gives Chandler diners another way to experience the family’s food, whether they want a quick pastry, coffee or a full quiche to bring home.

What I spent

My total was $53.83 for five pastries and a bacon and blue cheese quiche.

This was more than a quick coffee-and-croissant stop, but I also left with enough food to sample several bakery specialties and serve the quiche at home.

Would I return?

Yes.

The food is enough reason for me to go back. Knowing the people behind it just makes me happier to do it.

Quiches & Pies delivers the precision you want from French pastry without making the experience feel formal or precious. Stop in for one pastry if you possess more restraint than I do. Otherwise, accept your fate and get the box.
