Society Swan Scottsdale: Sam Fox’s Retro-Chic Brasserie

Posted on: October 8th, 2025 by Taryn Jeffries No Comments

Society Swan has officially settled into Scottsdale Fashion Square, bringing Sam Fox’s take on the glamorous American brasserie to the former Kona Grill space. The two-level restaurant leans into French flair, polished American classics and the kind of room that practically demands a martini.

As my closet and my bank account can attest, I am a huge fan of all things Mid Century Modern, and Society Swan strikes me as the perfect backdrop for my favorite Mad Men executives slipping in for a power lunch, ties loosened and martinis in hand, making deals over a platter of raw oysters.

At the same time, I can also see it as a place for the housewives to gather for Waldorf salads and gossip, sharing dinner-party tips and child-rearing woes against a backdrop of clinking glassware and conversation.

What Is Society Swan Scottsdale Like?

Paris meets Madison Avenue.

Society Swan is Fox’s take on the American brasserie: polished without feeling overly formal and theatrical without going full theme restaurant.

During the day, the room feels built for long lunches, martinis and conversations that probably should not happen within earshot of the next table. By evening, the lighting drops, the steak knives come out and the whole thing shifts into date-night territory.

If you like restaurants with a little glamour and a sense of occasion, Society Swan seems very comfortable being exactly that.

What’s on the Society Swan Scottsdale Menu?

The menu mixes French-brasserie influence with the kind of playful American touches Sam Fox restaurants tend to lean into.

  • French onion soup with aged Gruyère
  • Truffled Brie baguette
  • Wagyu pigs in a blanket
  • Steak tartare à la Parisienne
  • Roasted garlic custard
  • Steak frites
  • Chicken Francese
  • Black truffle spaghetti
  • Raw-bar selections
  • House martinis

The restaurant also still leans into the dishes that made the original opening announcement fun: steak frites, oysters, cocktails and food that feels just theatrical enough to match the room.

Society Swan Happy Hour and Martinis

Society Swan currently offers happy hour Monday through Friday from 3 to 6 p.m., which may be one of the easiest ways to test-drive the restaurant without committing to a full dinner.

Given the room’s whole Madison Avenue-meets-Paris personality, the martinis are practically part of the décor.

If you are heading in primarily for drinks, I would check the current happy-hour menu before you go since prices and offerings can change.

What Should You Order at Society Swan?

Since this article began as a preview rather than a full PhoenixBites review, I would not pretend these are firsthand recommendations.

But if you are studying the menu before making a reservation, a few dishes have been singled out in local coverage since Society Swan opened, including the roasted garlic custard, chicken Francese, black truffle spaghetti and praline butter crunch cake.

Once I eat there myself, this section can become a full What I Ordered at Society Swan breakdown with the meal, prices, photos and verdict.

Why Society Swan Stands Out at Scottsdale Fashion Square

Society Swan is Scottsdale’s glamour moment.

There is certainly no shortage of luxury dining around Scottsdale, but this concept is aiming for something a little more specific: timeless, theatrical and deliberately social.

It feels less like a restaurant trying to look expensive and more like one trying to create a scene.

A lunch that channels Madison Avenue. A girls’ afternoon that calls for pearls and gossip. Wagyu, martinis, oysters and enough polished brass to make you wonder whether someone nearby is about to announce a hostile takeover.

That is a much more interesting identity than simply being “another upscale Scottsdale restaurant.”

Is Society Swan Worth a Visit?

This is the one question I would phrase carefully until I have personally eaten there.

Based on the concept, menu and setting, Society Swan looks best suited for diners who want dinner to feel like part of the evening rather than simply the place where the food happens.

  • Date night
  • Celebratory lunch
  • Cocktails and oysters
  • Girls’ lunch
  • Fashion Square dinner before or after shopping
  • Anyone who believes a martini tastes better in a dramatic room

If you are looking for quiet, inexpensive or completely casual, this may not be the first place I would send you.

If, however, you are attempting to channel your inner Don or Betty Draper for a few hours, Society Swan clearly understands the assignment.

Society Swan opened at Scottsdale Fashion Square in October 2025, and a lot of the early promise appears to have become part of the restaurant’s identity.

The room is still giving timeless and theatrical. The martinis still make sense. And it remains exactly the kind of place that is going to show up in Scottsdale social feeds whether anyone planned on photographing dinner or not.

I still want to know the most important thing, though:

Does the food live up to the room?

That is the question I would save for the full PhoenixBites review.
