Can you believe Thanksgiving is just a few days away? This month has absolutely flown by. Thoughts of Thanksgiving inevitably lead to thoughts of Black Friday and all the amazing deals that seemingly every store wants you to know about. If you’re a fan of deep discounts and supporting local businesses, you’re going to want to carve out some time to get shop local on Small Business Saturday.

Never heard of Small Business Saturday?

  • Small Business Saturday takes place the Saturday after Thanksgiving each year and helps to shine a light on small, independent businesses that keep our local community thriving.
  • 86% of shoppers say that Small Business Saturday inspires them to go to small retailers and restaurants that they haven’t been to before or wouldn’t have otherwise tried.
  • 75% of consumers plan to visit one or more small businesses as part of their holiday shopping this year.
  • Small Business Saturday was created by American Express in 2010 as a way to help small businesses get more customers.

Curious which small businesses near you are participating? Here are just a few!

Changing Hands Bookstore | 300 W. Camelback Road | Beginning at 10am
Santa will make a guest appearance and host a special story time. Kids will be able to take photos with the Bug Guy and make a craft or two. To show just how much Santa loves small businesses he’ll be joined by a drum line headed to the light rail where shoppers can catch a ride to other small businesses.

Scottsdale Block Party on 5th | 7142 E. 5th Avenue | Starting at 10am
In partnership with the City of Scottsdale Downtown Association, this Shop Small themed block party event will feature street music, acrobatics and stilt walkers.

Bubble Bath Boutique | 4214 E. Shea Blvd. | Starting at 10am
Bubble Bath Boutique will celebrate Small Business Saturday with a kick off breakfast at 10am and a treasure hunt for their customers.

Scottsdazzle | Soleri Bridge | 4420 N. Scottsdale Road | Beginning at 6pm
Mayor Jim Lane and members of the Scottsdale City Council will be on hand to light a one-of-a-kind tree as well as lead carolers in a sing along even that will launch the city’s annual holiday celebration. Snack on sweet treats and sip on cocoa to really get in the holiday spirit.
