Who is The Cottage’s Chef Scott Heinonen?

Chef and owner Scott Heinonen purchased the business from Frank Branham who had owned and operated Cottage place for 22 years. The restaurant closed its doors for six weeks to allow for its renovations. The Cottage is currently serving French bistro cuisine six nights a week and is closed on Tuesday.

Chef Scott Heinonen brings a wealth of experience and talent to the restaurant. He is a graduate of the School of Hotel and Restaurant Management at Northern Arizona University. In the past 30 years, Chef Heinonen has garnered experience through his positions in the Southwest, Pacific Northwest and Northern California. He also attended The Culinary Institute of America at Greystone in Napa Valley. He also spent some time as private chef to Sir Paul McCartney and Heather Mills.

Chef Heinonen was the opening chef of the popular Cuveé 928 Wine Bar & Café when he returned to Flagstaff in 2015. Here, his cooking was met with rave reviews by locals and critics alike. Heinonen followed up this accomplishment by fulfilling a lifelong goal of operating his own restaurant when Tinderbox Kitchen opened in May of 2009. This opening helped to lead the culinary resurgence of Flagstaff and San Francisco Street’s Southside. The focus on redefined American comfort food quickly made Tinderbox Kitchen a local favorite.

The opening of The Cottage brings about a new culinary chapter for Chef Heinonen. He has worked tirelessly to transform the space, long since known for fine dining, into a stylish farmhouse French bistro.

The cuisine at The Cottage will reflect the regional country dishes of France, with a touch of Heinonen’s modern sensibility. The menu will incorporate locally sourced ingredients along with Chef’s passion for cooking with the seasons. You can look forward to exploring French cuisine prepared with heart and soul, in a way only Chef Heinonen can.
